We have an exciting opportunity for a Orion Co-Manifested Payload Docking Integration Lead to join the team with Aerodyne Industries.
- Tasking is expected to vary across the following:
- Provide insight to and oversight of tasks related to the integration of Co-Manifested Payload (International Habitat, Refueling Module, Airlock, etc) docking mechanisms, relative navigation sensors, avionics, and software within the Orion spacecraft architecture.
- Coordinate activities across Orion and Gateway programs, including coordination across US suppliers and International Partners
- Participate and/or lead working groups to resolve technical issues, requirement disconnects, facilitate changes, etc.
- Analyze partner and provider requirements to assess conflicts, gaps, and adequate flow down and decomposition of the NASA program requirements.
- Assist in the planning, development, review, and maintenance of requirements and verification plans, products, and closures.
- Lead NASA reviews and prepare materials for system life cycle milestones, including Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, Hardware Acceptance Reviews, and Flight Readiness Reviews
- Review and provide feedback to Docking-related Safety Hazard reports. Participate in the NASA safety panel reviews and work with providers to resolve identified concerns.
- Participate in a real-time flight support role requiring knowledge of docking system and vehicle operations, flight rules, and contingency procedures. This would also require training with a mission support team under various flight scenarios in the JSC Mission Control Center
- Work with team members to identify risks, develop risk statements, and plan risk responses, including program level risks.
- Review vendor submitted data, such as verification closure notices, and recommend NASA acceptance or provide comments to identify and resolve shortcomings.
- Work in a team environment and report to the team lead to provide status on progress and issues.
- Maintain a professional relationship with the NASA customer and other NASA support contractors.
- Travel as needed to other NASA centers and commercial partner facilities, international and domestic, in support of duties.

Qualifications External

- Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering and may be expected to have a related master's degree and normally possess 10-15 years of related experience.
- Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering and possess 10+ years of related experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including:
- Preparation of written review packages
- Summary reports status and/or metrics
- Create requirement, interface definition, and/or verification content
- Ability to work in a cross-discipline team to compile input and clearly communicate team positions to senior managers.
- Experience with NASA, or similar program, product development and operational life cycle, including related best practices, standards, and processes.
- Ability to track multiple tasks and prioritize work independently.
- Self-motivation and quick learner to adapt to the broad array of subjects and issues.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel, familiarity with Sharepoint and requirement management databases.
Requisition Preferences:
- BS degree in Systems, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited engineering school.
- Knowledge and work experience in a Systems Engineering role in a NASA, DoD, or Aerospace environment or a desire to transition to a systems engineering role, especially with complex or multi-discipline systems.
- Experience with, or working knowledge of, aerospace docking systems, relative navigation sensors, and docking operations
- Familiarity with Orion, Gateway, Commercial Crew, Space Shuttle, and/or International Space Station design development, certification, and delivery life cycle processes.
- Familiarity with NASA JSC Flight Hardware Life Cycle, Certification, and Engineering processes
- Experience with requirements development, flow down, and management.
- Experience with verification and validation definition, execution, and closure.
- Experience with developing and evaluating technical or design trade studies.
- Experience with developing and evaluating root cause analyses and failure recovery plans.
- Working knowledge of requirements management software and systems engineering tools such as DOORS, Cradle or Jama.

Work Environment
Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Attendance
Regular attendance in accordance with the established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
