The Department of History, Humanities, & Languages at the University of Houston-Downtown invites applications for one tenure-track position in U.S. History at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2026. The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to teach U.S. History in the general Texas Core as well as publications in and/ or experience with teaching HIST 3329: U.S. Women's History and similar upper-level courses.

Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in History
- ABD's may be considered but the doctorate must be complete by the time of employment
- Evidence of teaching experience and scholarly work in U.S. History and Women's History
Responsibilities:
UHD is a teaching university, and full-time faculty teach a 4/3 course load. Assistant professors are granted one course release during their first year. During each long semester, assistant professors teach a combination of lower- and upper-level History courses to suit the needs of the program. They must also maintain an active research agenda related to the discipline and display an ongoing commitment to committee work and service to the UHD community.
The search committee will begin screening candidates' materials on February 1, 2026. The search will remain open until a successful candidate has been identified.
