Job Summary
SMSI, LLC is seeking multiple junior, mid, and senior level Construction Engineers to support construction projects for a variety of clients and projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
Responsibilities
- Coordinate deliverables for construction closeout and turnover package development including review and closure of all subcontractor submittals, construction and verification test data, and subcontractor as-built documentation.
- Provide support to more experienced construction engineering personnel by performing routine construction engineering assignments at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
- Assigned to a discipline position within the Construction Management Division in an administrative or technical capacity.
- Complete assigned tasks under routine supervision and technical directions.
Required Skills/ Abilities
- Minimum of 2-8 years of related experience, depending on the level for the position.
- Demonstrated understanding of capital construction projects (i.e., understand role of contractor, designer, owner).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
- Capability to organize project documentation using various means (e.g., spreadsheets, databases).
- Capability with MS Office Suite and ability/willingness to learn new software packages.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with clients, contractors, and consultant on a day-to-day basis.
- Self-starter with ability to work with limited oversight.
- Candidates must be able to work onsite at LANL.
- Knowledge is normally acquired through: a recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline or specialized courses in engineering disciplines, and/or 5 years actual work experience and certifications leading to the thorough understanding of the knowledge described above.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Q clearance.
Desired Skills
Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred but not required:
- Previous experience working at LANL and/or nuclear facilities is preferred but not required.
- An active or recently inactive DOE Q or DOD Top Secret clearance is a plus.
Education
- Depending on the level of position, candidate should have a bachelor's degree and 2 years of work experience in related field or 6 years of experience in lieu of degree.
- More senior level positions should have a bachelor's degree and 8 years of related experience or certifications or 12 years of related experience without a degree.
- Knowledge is normally acquired through: a recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline or specialized courses in engineering disciplines, and/or 5 years actual work experience and certifications leading to the thorough understanding of the knowledge described above.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform walk downs onsite.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted
- May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.

- This job operates in a professional office environment and occasional construction site visits
