Purpose:
Under supervision of Director of Safety Health and Environment, the Corporate SHE & Sustainability Specialist develops, implements and maintains Sustainability processes, provides technical expertise for SHE regulatory compliance programs, leads the corporate industrial hygiene program and conducts internal auditing to ensure that Zeon facilities operate in compliance with all applicable regulations. This role also drives continuous improvement in achieving Zeon's sustainable development goals and SHE performance in R&D facilities. The Corporate SHE & Sustainability Specialist will act as liaison between site SHE representatives and Corporate as well as with governmental agency representatives, third-party certification bodies and consultants as necessary.
Job Functions/Accountabilities (Essential & Marginal):
- Communicates with EMC, Leadership Committee and other interested parties regarding Zeon's sustainability programs.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, State and local regulations.
- Identify requirements, develop plans and achieve/maintain sustainability certification(s) including ISCC Plus as required.
- Manage corporate industrial hygiene (IH) program and assist in implementing IH monitoring at all Zeon sites. Incorporate continuous improvement practices to reduce employee exposures.
- Ensure all sustainability & SHE records are complete and organized and all reporting requirements are accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
- Develop and implement environmental management systems and procedures as needed to ensure regulatory and corporate compliance. Assures plant policies and procedures are compliant with regulatory standards.
- Establish, track, report, and analyze the site's key environmental sustainability performance metrics and GHG emissions; work in cooperation with managers, engineers and others to keep performance on track and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Plans, prepares and coordinates required SHE training for employees and contractors. Continuously updates training materials and develops innovative methods to make training both interesting and relevant.
- Audits and documents SHE programs, procedures, and corrective actions making recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Partner with corporate and/or site leadership to close audit findings and implement recommendations.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in safety, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental sustainability, with preferred 1-3 years of experience at a chemical manufacturing plant or equivalent industry.
Special Qualifications:
- Possess demonstrated knowledge and application of USEPA, USDOT/IATA/IMDG, OSHA, relevant state and local regulations.
- Knowledgeable of chemistry/chemical terminology, and chemical processing equipment.
- Ability to effectively lead and influence project teams and to positively influence hourly associates.
- Must be able to effectively recognize the need for and be able to lead positive change and make decisions in stressful situations.
- Must be willing to support community outreach and communication programs as necessary.
Work Conditions:
Office environment within a chemical complex/Laboratory environment/Manufacturing environment. Some exposure to dirt, heat, noise, fumes, etc.
Some standing, walking, and handling light to moderate weights. Low degree of hazard associated with the job.
