Position Summary:
The Cost Engineer assists and supports the project team with budget management, productivity tracking, project forecasting, subcontract management, and accounts receivable. The position works under the direct supervision of the Project Controls Manager. The Cost Engineer must be a team player and have strong organizational skills. The Cost Engineer will work on the project site.Major Duties & Responsibilities
• Perform tasks required to develop and maintain budgets for the project. This includes reorganizing budgets resulting from a change in means and methods, as well as updating budgets for additional work activities.
• Supports Cost Tracking / Reporting / Forecasting. This includes coding or reviewing the coding of timesheets, invoices, etc. for accuracy as well as ensuring that adequate tracking of quantities and production is performed on a weekly basis. The results of the analysis should be clearly communicated to the other members of the project team.
• Support the change order management process.
• Assist with preparation of cost estimates and negotiation for additional work on the project including tracking Time & Material work.
• Assist with monthly project cost forecasting.
• Participate in subcontractor and material supplier quote analysis and negotiations.
• Prepare quarterly project audits based on extensive knowledge of the ongoing construction as well as input from other members of the project team.
• Provide supervision and/or on-the-job training to clerical and entry level professional personnel assigned to area of responsibility as needed.
• Assist with project close-out.
• Assist in maintaining, developing, and strengthening customer relationships.
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
• Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or equivalent required.
• 3-4 years of construction experience.
• Ability to read and analyze engineering drawings and specifications.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of contracts and contract language.
• Ability to identify, prioritize and mitigate project risk.
• Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office products and SharePoint.
• Excellent analytical skills.
• Functions effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times.
• Strong written and communication skills.
• Good time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to understand and follow directions.
