The Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Research (OSVCR) is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated data analyst to support the growing research analytics portfolio across the University. This entry-level position plays a key role in advancing the University's data-driven decision-making by assisting with routine analytics, data preparation, and reporting tasks.
The data analyst will work closely with senior analysts to clean, structure, and validate data from a variety of internal research systems and external sources. Responsibilities include generating basic descriptive statistics, preparing dashboards and summary tables, and supporting recurring data processes that inform institutional reporting and strategic initiatives.
A core component of this role is providing analytical support to the Research Concierge Program, which is a university-wide service that provides faculty and research staff with a single point of contact to help navigate Pitt's research environment. The data analyst will support this work by preparing benchmarking metrics, basic statistical summaries, and usage data that help evaluate program effectiveness and inform service improvements. The data analyst is also expected to actively participate in meetings pertinent to the different program operations.

Job Summary
Evaluates business requirements and performs basic data integration and analysis. Develops routine analytical and reporting tools utilizing integrated data. Provides technical support.
Essential Functions
• Data Preparation and Cleaning: Assist in collecting, cleaning, validating, and organizing data from multiple internal research systems and external sources to support accurate reporting and analysis.
• Basic Analytics and Reporting: Produce routine descriptive statistics, summary tables, and simple visualizations that inform operational needs, recurring reporting and strategic decision-making
• Dashboard and Reporting Support: Contribute to the preparation, maintenance, and quality assurance of dashboards, recurring reports, and data products developed by the research analytics team.
• Research Concierge Program Support: Gather relevant datasets and generate benchmarking metrics, usage summaries, and straightforward analytical outputs to support Concierge services and faculty requests.
• Documentation and Process Tracking: Maintain clear documentation of data sources, analytical steps, workflows, and recurring processes to ensure reproducibility and continuity.
• Quality Control: Conduct routine checks to verify data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across systems and reports.
• Collaboration and Service Orientation: Work closely with senior analysts, Concierge staff, and other research administration units to address data needs, clarify requests, and provide timely, service-focused support.
• Professional Development: Learn and apply new data tools, methods, and institutional systems as required to grow analytical capacity and support evolving unit needs.
