Description
The Digester Operator is responsible for overseeing and performing activities related to the safe and efficient operation of anaerobic digesters. This includes operating equipment, collecting samples, performing lab analysis, operating and monitoring digesters, pumps, mixers and other related equipment using controls systems ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.Essential Position Responsibliities
Ability to operate and monitor digesters, collect samples of materials, control the input of materials into the digesters which could include inspecting, weighing and conducting cleaning of material before they enter the digester. Monitor equipment, gauges and charts related to digesters performance (temperature, PH, biogas, etc.), Daily set-up and operation of machines to production standards, maintain accurate inventory of supply, operate the monitoring system and de-packing machinery, operate front-end loader or forklifts to move materials and feeding conveyors. Adherence to proper handling of fuels, regular inspections of work area, and the use of gas detectors. Collect inbound samples, maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure the area is free from debris and hazards. Coordinate with other personnel to ensure compliance with specifications.
Participate in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T. practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues, e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger Organization.
Is familiar with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position's role in support of these systems - including consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
Ability to work in a wet, noisy, dusty, humid, hot or cold environment with exposure to outdoor temperatures. Ability to walk and stand on feet for more than 10 hours per shift. Ability to climb stairs / fixed and vertical ladders occasionally, requires upper body and arm strength due to frequently claiming vertical ladders and having to pull up your own weight and not afraid of Hights. Requires occasional bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Use of shovels and hand tools frequently throughout shift. Ability to identify and use PPE in accordance with SDS sheets. Must be able to pass a fit test, physical exam, and pulmonary function test (lung capacity) and serve on Hazardous response team. Must be able to obtain and maintain a forklift license.

Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE): Hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, safety footwear, H2S monitor and reflective vest.
Travel : Some travel between Simmons facilities may be necessary.
Technical Experience: Industrial control and multiple heavy equipment experience skills preferred. ABC Digestor Operator Certification required.
Industry Experience: Experience in wastewater treatment or anaerobic digestion is often preferred.
