Description
Summary Positronic has an exciting opportunity for a student looking to gain hands-on experience in material science and engineering. This project-based internship focuses on improving the consistency of gold plating thickness on aerospace components using Positronic's automated plating process. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct milestone testing and evaluations related to gold plating process performance. Collect and analyze data to identify trends and deviations in plating thickness. Apply problem-solving and statistical analysis techniques to improve process consistency. Document findings and prepare clear, data-driven reports on project milestones and results. Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to implement process improvements. Uphold Positronic's standards of integrity, quality, and operational excellence. Identify hazards in the workplace and report them to management and/or the safety coordinator. Collaborate with the EHS department to meet local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including OSHA, NFPA, DNR, EPA, and Amphenol sustainability practices. Work with the Quality department to ensure compliance with AS9100 certification standards. Comply with all company policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Education and Experience Currently pursuing a degree in Chemistry, Statistics, Engineering, Physics, or related field. Physical Regular walking, standing, sitting, climbing, bending, and crouching. May lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Use of hand tools, technical equipment, and standard office technology. Internship Time This assignment will take place in 2026 from January to May. Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in a production and office environment with exposure to machinery, moderate noise, and standard shop materials. Competencies Knowledge Knowledge of basic engineering or scientific principles related to materials, chemistry, or manufacturing processes. Understanding of data collection, measurement methods, and basic statistical analysis. Familiarity with laboratory or test environments and safe handling of materials/equipment. Foundational knowledge of problem-solving methodologies and root cause analysis. Skills Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends or deviations. Skilled in organizing test results, preparing reports, and communicating findings clearly. Proficiency in using spreadsheets, charts, or basic statistical tools for data analysis. Effective time-management skills to maintain a consistent schedule and meet project milestones. Abilities Ability to follow test procedures and accurately document results. Ability to think critically, troubleshoot issues, and propose potential solutions. Ability to work independently on individual tasks and collaborate effectively with engineering and quality teams. Ability to maintain attention to detail in repetitive or precision-based tasks.
