Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will join a vibrant educational community and have adesire and ability to serve a population of students with various needs andbackgrounds. Join our ParamedicineProgram, accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied HealthEducation Programs (CAAHEP). MassBay Community College is looking for adedicated full-time evening instructor to help prepare future Emergency MedicalServices professionals. This position involves teaching in classrooms, skillslabs, and simulation lab settings across both EMT and Paramedicine courses,with possible opportunities for online or hybrid instruction. The idealcandidate will be skilled in using digital learning tools, enjoy teamcollaboration, and share a strong commitment to supporting and mentoringstudents from diverse backgrounds within the Emergency Medical Servicesprogram.
Faculty members are expected to develop educational and assessment materialsthat align with the program's philosophy and framework, MassBay CommunityCollege standards, and, where relevant, accreditation, licensure, and specialtycriteria as outlined by the MA Office of Emergency Medical Services andCoAEMSP. Additionally, faculty must maintain an active OEMS or NREMTlicense/certification and demonstrate ongoing expertise in emergency medicalservices.
Required Qualifications:
Teaching and Curriculum Development
- Faculty are required to maintain a full-time workload, which includes teaching across the EMT and Paramedicine Programs. Instructional duties encompass classroom, clinical, laboratory, and simulation-based courses, ensuring comprehensive coverage of all program components;
- In addition to teaching, faculty members prepare syllabi and develop curricula for lectures, laboratory sessions, and simulation settings. These materials are designed to address course and program student learning outcomes as well as Graduation Competencies, whenever applicable;
Instructional Methods
- Effective teaching is expected in traditional, hybrid, and online learning environments. Faculty members employ a range of instructional strategies to address the diverse needs of students enrolled in the program;
Student Support and Advising
- Faculty serve as academic advisors to students, providing guidance throughout their educational journey. Office hours are maintained to support student needs and foster academic success;
Governance and Committee Participation
- Participation in College, Division, and Program governance is required. This includes attending meetings of the Division, Department, Advisory Committee, and other relevant committees, as well as contributing to the effective operation and advancement of the program;
Assessment and Program Improvement
- Faculty members actively participate in assessing courses and program learning outcomes, ensuring that educational objectives are met and continually refined for improvement;
Safety and Compliance
- Maintaining a safe environment during skills training and evaluation sessions is paramount. Faculty ensure that all safety protocols are followed during hands-on instructional activities;
Technology Utilization
- Faculty effectively utilize technology to communicate with students and colleagues, as well as to enhance classroom learning where appropriate;
Professional Development
- Engagement in professional development activities is expected to maintain excellence and expertise in classroom, clinical, and simulation teaching;
Documentation and Accreditation
- Faculty members are responsible for maintaining the necessary paperwork and documentation as required by the program and accreditation agencies;
Additional Duties and Collaboration
This list is not to be considered all-inclusive. Asupervisor may assign other duties as required to meet the needs and foster themission of the College.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Current, active MA and/or NREMT Paramedic certification without restriction/in good standing;
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience within the last ten years, as a Paramedic functioning on an ambulance providing EMS care;
- Any associate degree (from an accredited college or university) or comparable years of experience and a commitment to complete a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university within 2 years of hire;
- Current AHA, BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification;
- If the applicant only has their NREMT Paramedic, they must be able to obtain their Massachusetts Paramedic within 30 days of hire;
- Within one semester of employment, individuals who do not possess the required qualifications must obtain all necessary instructor credentials relevant to the position. These may include, but are not limited to:
- Instructor/Coordinator
- ACLS/BLS/PALS Instructor
Preferred Qualifications:
- Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action;
- Experience working in a community college or similar environment;
- Demonstrates commitment to working with students in need;
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university;
- Teaching experience in EMS- EMTs, Paramedics, first responders, and/or other healthcare-related teaching experiences;
- Experience working in a diverse environment;
- Current Massachusetts EMS Instructor/Coordinator credential;
- Demonstrates strength in teaching introductory and advanced EMT and paramedic skills;
- Must be current in all areas of pre-hospital care and operations for instructing students in didactic, laboratory, and clinical settings.
Additional Compensation and Leadership Opportunities:
- Additional compensation is available by teaching day EMT and/or Paramedic credit-based courses and by working as an hourly EMS Learning Specialist in the day for $49.32/hour up to 18 hours per week;
- Opportunities may exist for leadership roles within the EMS Department.
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $76,000 -$82,000 in accordance with one's education and experience as dictated by thecollective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure.
