Description
The Human Resource Generalist facilitates the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including routine duties within benefits, employee relations, recruiting, and other tasks related to the department of Human Resources/Administration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Handles a wide range of HR functions, including disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, investigations, performance management, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Supports benefits administration and open enrollment, responds to employee inquiries, ensures compliance with laws and policies, and coordinates with vendors on reporting and benefits matters.
- Serves as a point of contact for employment related questions from employees and supervisors, referring complex or sensitive issues to appropriate staff.
- Oversees background checks and employment eligibility verification (I-9).
- Coordinates new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws; reviews and updates policies to align with best practices.
- Stays current on HR trends, regulatory changes, and advancements in talent management and employment law.
- May attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- May oversee the scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of subordinate staff in the department.
- May assist with constructive and timely performance evaluation.
- Performs other duties as assigned/necessary.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of human resources experience preferred.
- Experience in managing and administering employee benefits programs—including health, dental, vision, FSA/HSA, life insurance, and retirement plans—is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate when appropriate.
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS and talent management systems.
Education:
- High School diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required preferred.
- SHRM certification preferred

Experience
