National Capitol ContractingPosition Summary
This is a part-time, remote position in McLean, VA.
NCC is seeking a highly motivated Intern to support our Contracts, Procurement, and Quality Management functions. This role offers hands-on experience in federal contracting, vendor management, ISO/CMMI quality frameworks, and internal process optimization. The intern will work closely with senior staff and program teams to support daily operations, improve workflows, and assist with high-priority initiatives.
Key Areas of Responsibilities
- Support general administrative and operational tasks, including documentation, scheduling, research, data entry, status tracking, and maintain organized records across contracts and procurement activities.
- Assist with program management governance, helping prepare required documentation, tracking deliverables, and supporting communication with Contracting Officers (COs).
- Research and summarize updates to the FAR—particularly recent and upcoming CPARS requirements and policy changes—and help prepare internal briefings, educational materials, and guidance for project teams.
- Support CO engagement efforts, including maintaining contact lists, helping prepare outreach messages, tracking correspondence, and contributing to internal awareness on best practices for interacting with COs and CORs.
- Provide procurement support for upcoming NIH ODC actions, including collecting vendor quotes, comparing options, managing vendor communications, preparing purchase recommendation summaries, and tracking order statuses to completion.
- Assist with vendor management, including documentation updates, performance tracking, onboarding coordination, and shifting routine vendor interactions away from senior procurement staff.
- Contribute to ISO 9001 and CMMI quality initiatives, including gathering KPI data, supporting monthly reporting to PMs and program leads, assisting with process audits, updating the Quality Assurance Manual (QAM), and tracking corrective actions or improvement items.
- Help develop and maintain internal reporting tools and dashboards by organizing data, validating inputs, and supporting consistent reporting rhythms across programs.
- Update and enhance Excel-based templates by improving structure, formulas, logic, formatting, automation, and overall usability, document the improved workflows for BD, PMs, and staff.
- Support meeting preparation, note-taking, action-item tracking, and cross-team communication to ensure transparency and accountability across Contracts, Procurement, and Quality efforts.
- Collaborate with team members on ad-hoc tasks, research assignments, and process improvement projects to support NCC's operational excellence and compliance posture.
Minimum Requirements
- Interest in federal contracting, procurement, business operations, or quality management.
- Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, ask questions proactively, and work independently with guidance.
- Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn new systems and processes.
