About the Role
The Kitchen Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the commercial kitchen serving individuals in Compass Health's inpatient psychiatric unit and crisis stabilization program. This role ensures meals are prepared and delivered safely, on time, and in accordance with dietary guidelines and therapeutic needs. The Kitchen Supervisor leads food service staff, manages inventory, maintains compliance with food safety regulations, and supports a trauma-informed, recovery-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise kitchen staff and coordinate meal preparation and delivery schedules.
- Ensure all meals meet nutritional standards and accommodate dietary restrictions in collaboration with inpatient management teams.
- Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols.
- Monitor inventory, order food/supplies, and coordinate with approved vendors.
- Receive and inspect food deliveries (temperature, freshness, packaging integrity) and document receipt condition.
- Ensure proper food storage, including date labeling and allergen separation.
- Train and support staff in safe food handling and trauma-informed service practices.
- Collaborate with clinical teams to support client needs and meal-related care plans.
- Ensure all kitchen equipment is cleaned and maintained; report repair needs to the Building Manager.
- Assist in developing kitchen policies, procedures, and best practices consistent with agency and building code standards.
- Maintain required records (temperature logs, sanitation logs, production logs, delivery logs, audit reports, incident documentation).
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and regulatory audits.
- Support a culturally responsive, trauma-informed environment.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary or food service management certification preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of food service experience, including at least 1 year of supervisory experience.
- Experience in healthcare, behavioral health, or institutional food service strongly preferred.
- ServSafe Manager Certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days.
- Food Handlers Permit required.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, fast-paced environment.
- Must pass required background checks and health screenings.
- Current First Aid & CPR certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Valid Washington State Driver's License, vehicle, and appropriate insurance if applicable.
