Description
OverviewWe are seeking a full-time Manager Quality in our Miramar, FL location. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team responsible for driving activities to ensure and improve quality and reliability of Garmin's parts, products, processes, and systems throughout all phases of the product life cycle.
Essential Functions
- Conduct regular reviews of supplier/customer quality data and communicate with suppliers/customers on feedback and plans for improvement; areas may include external/internal measurements, corrective actions, and implementation of improvement processes and programs
- Manage the analysis and utilization of data and information from part/product inspection, sales/return data, and Product Support to improve part/product and processes across the various Garmin sites
- Work with Design Engineering to fulfill customer contractual requirements relating to quality requirements as flowed down from the customer agreements (i.e. PPAP, FMEA, capability studies, gage studies) and participate in ECO reviews
- Manage the performance of advance statistical analysis as needed to support operations, manufacturing, engineering, supplier and/or customer requirements
- Provide expertise and training for continuous improvement methodologies, problem solving methodologies, statistical techniques and quality tools
- Provide support to drive supplier improvements by working with Global Supply Chain and supporting MRB (Material Review Board) procedures and processes including measurements to track and communicate quality data to the organization, suppliers, and customers
- Coordinate team efforts and communicate with the multiple Garmin facilities regarding root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive actions
- Ensure the organizations processes and procedures are aligned with various certification and approval organizations representing quality systems (e.g. ISO9001, AS9000, FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), IATF14969, Customer Specific Requirements etc.)
- Support the internal auditing process to ensure quality system compliance, provide feedback to management regarding opportunities for improvement and support overall effectiveness of the quality system
- Team with Design Engineering, Process Engineering, Reliability, Materials/Purchasing, Customer Repair, and Manufacturing in introducing new products into Manufacturing. Areas may include:
- Champion lessons learned and industry standard practices at design reviews
- Analyze and/or develop product/process quality plan
- Maintain lessons learned appendix to design for manufacturability guidelines
- Champion activities to maximize reliability of both new and existing products. Activities may include:
- Designing and conducting experiments to measure product life and reliability
- Assisting in development and application of reliability testing strategies including HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Test) and HASS (Highly Accelerated Stress Screening)
- Recommending design or process improvements to enhance reliability
- Measuring and maintaining field reliability data and communicating results
- Work with Design Engineering, Materials, Manufacturing, Customer Repair, and Process Engineering to identify and implement process and design improvements in order to continuously improve production yield and product quality. Areas may include:
- Analyze process performance and identify and implement methods for reducing process variation
- Design experiments to improve supplier material and production processes
- Perform failure analysis investigations to determine root cause of product failures
- Review and analyze production, quality, maintenance and operational data to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and production problems
- Develop and lead GARMIN quality program initiatives (as assigned) involving applications, certifications and compliance audits of organizational or customer required quality systems. Ensure the organizations processes and procedures are aligned with various certification and approval organizations representing quality systems (e.g. ISO9001, IATF14969, Customer Specific Requirements etc.)
- Support the internal auditing process to ensure quality system compliance, provide feedback to management regarding opportunities for improvement and support overall effectiveness of the quality system
- Interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance
- Set the tone for the team environment and build healthy team relationships
- Lead the development efforts of team members with diverse capability levels
- Create, implement, and deliver training programs as directed to support Quality initiatives
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related engineering field AND a minimum of 10 years experience working with various continuous improvement methodologies
- Technical mastery of continuous improvement tools such as DMAIC, PDCA, 5 Why's, statistical methods, and designed experiments
- Must possess demonstrated leadership experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance tools / techniques including Advance Product Quality Planning, FMEA, SPC, PPAP, and MSA
- Proficient knowledge of ISO9001, IATF16949 and related quality certifications related to consumer products
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
- Must demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills to work across functional and organizational lines
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize, organize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment to effectively meet deadlines
- Demonstrated financial experience with the ability to calculate cost benefit analysis and ROI
- Previous quality experience in consumer electronics, or automotive industries
- ASQ Certification (CQE, CMQ/OE, or CSSBB)
- Master's Degree in Engineering or related field
