This is a Term-Limited, Part-Time, Benefits eligible position aligned with a term of service of December 2025 - December 2026 with an option to extend contingent upon future business needs within the division.

Position Summary:
Under general supervision by the Assistant Dean of Recruiting and Admissions and/or the Director of Recruiting , application readers are part-time and seasonal positions that assist the Rice Business Recruiting and Admissions Office staff to perform selected duties during seasons of peak activity. Readers work a minimum of 20 hours per week and up to 40 hours per week from mid-October through March. All application reviews are completed virtually, using a web-based platform.
This is primarily a remote position with occasional in-person commitments. Please note that these are part-time, seasonal positions that require annual reappointments.
Ideal Candidate Statement:
The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has had experience in a higher education environment, preferably in graduate admissions. The ideal candidate will be a results-driven and highly motivated individual contributor, yet able to work with a team of equally dedicated staff to bring in the best students for the MBA programs at the Jones Graduate School.
Workplace Requirements:
Rice Business primarily delivers residential classes and activities taking place almost daily between 7 am and 10 pm. We value a highly collaborative and community-based culture, with expectations to provide in-person support and services to all members of our community. Remote work options are limited. Most employment activities are required to be performed in-person and on-campus. This in-person approach is central to the successful achievement of our research and academic missions.
This position will be offered as a remote position and may require in-person commitments on an as-needed basis to provide flexibility and support collaboration.
Per Rice policy 440 , work arrangements may be subject to change.
Hourly Rate : $30/hour
*Non-Exempt (hourly) positions under FLSA are eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma
- Two or more (2+) years of professional work experience.
- In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education above and beyond what is required, may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis
- Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Sound Judgement and decision-making abilities
- Ability to critically analyze application materials
- Strong critical thinking skills
Preferences:
- MBA or master's degree is preferred
- Professional enrollment management experience in a graduate business school environment
- Professional experience working with CRM systems specifically Slate
- Familiarity with Rice University
Essential Functions:
- Reads, evaluates and makes recommendations regarding admission applications utilizing business school's admissions rating system to objectively assess applications, ensuring consistency and fairness in the evaluation process
- Submits evaluations and assessments in a timely manner utilizing the Slate CRM system
- Ensures adherence to federal and state laws governing college admissions, including FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) regulations, affirmative action guidelines, and other relevant policies to maintain legal and ethical standards.
- Excellent reading comprehension skills and organizational skills
- Knowledge of admission processes and programs
- Outstanding analytic, time management, decision-making, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage time and workflow and to manage multiple, concurrent high priority projects in a time-pressured environment
- Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills, good judgment
- Appreciate a wide range of talents, backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives represented in applications.
- Well-developed computer skills and the demonstrated ability to adapt to software programs are crucial.
- Must have high-speed internet access, wired or wireless connection to an internet provider at a quiet and private location.
- Must demonstrate a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
- Candidates must be self- directed and able to work independently.
