About the RoleWe're looking for a MuleSoft Integration Engineering Manager to architect and lead our Device Data and Partner Connectivity capability within the MuleSoft Integration Practice-a mission-critical function that powers secure, scalable data exchange between medical devices, healthcare partners, and our enterprise ecosystem.
This is a high-impact leadership role where you'll build and lead a Center for Enablement (C4E), architect next-generation API-led connectivity solutions, and drive integration excellence across our medical device platform. You'll lead a team of 5-7 integration leads and engineers while establishing the strategic direction for our MuleSoft practice using CloudHub 2.0, Domain-Driven Design principles, and modern integration patterns.
As a hands-on leader, you'll balance strategic architecture with tactical execution, ensuring our integration platform scales to meet the demands of a regulated healthcare environment while enabling innovation in device connectivity and partner ecosystems.
Strategic Scope: Device Data & Partner Connectivity
You'll own the integration architecture and delivery for two critical capabilities:
Device Data Connectivity
- Design integration patterns for real-time and batch medical device data ingestion
- Architect secure, compliant data pipelines for device telemetry, diagnostics, and events using MuleSoft Platform
- Enable bidirectional communication between devices, mobile applications, and cloud platforms
- Implement FHIR, HL7, DICOM, and proprietary device protocol integrations as needed
Partner Ecosystem Integration
- Lead API strategy for external partner connectivity (EHR systems, laboratories, payers, providers)
- Design and govern partner onboarding frameworks and API products
- Establish partner API lifecycle management and developer experience standards
- Create reusable integration accelerators for common healthcare partner patterns
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Center for Enablement (C4E)
- Establish and lead the MuleSoft Center for Enablement (C4E) to drive API-first culture, reusability, and integration excellence
- Define integration strategy, architectural standards, and governance frameworks aligned with business objectives
- Build API product catalog and promote asset reusability through Anypoint Exchange
- Create reference architectures, design patterns, and best practice guidelines for Domain-Driven Design (DDD) integration
- Drive innovation roadmap incorporating emerging technologies (Flex Gateway, API Mesh, event mesh)
- Partner with enterprise architecture, security, and compliance teams to align integration strategy with company goals
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 5-7 MuleSoft developers (employees and contractors, onshore/offshore)
- Conduct architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical design sessions
- Establish team rituals, KPIs, and continuous improvement practices
- Foster a culture of innovation, quality, and engineering excellence
- Manage performance, career development, and skill advancement for team members
- Build talent pipeline and recruitment strategy for integration capabilities
- Architect enterprise-grade integration solutions using API-led connectivity (Experience, Process, System APIs)
- Apply Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles to create bounded contexts and align APIs with business domains
- Design event-driven architectures using Anypoint MQ, CloudHub 2.0 messaging, and external event brokers
- Implement CloudHub 2.0 best practices including shared spaces, private spaces, autoscaling, and advanced networking
- Architect high-availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) strategies for mission-critical integrations
- Design multi-region, multi-cloud integration architectures spanning AWS and Azure
- Implement API security patterns (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, mTLS, API key management) with Okta integration
- Design MuleSoft deployments integrated with AWS (API Gateway, Lambda, EventBridge, S3, RDS) and Azure (API Management, Function Apps, Service Bus, Event Grid)
- Collaborate with cloud and infrastructure teams on load balancing, networking (VPCs, VNets), and connectivity patterns
- Architect hybrid integration scenarios connecting on-premises systems, SaaS applications, and cloud platforms
- Optimize CloudHub 2.0 deployments for performance, cost, and resilience
- Oversee CI/CD pipeline implementation using GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or MuleSoft's Anypoint CLI
- Implement automated testing strategies (MUnit, API functional testing, contract testing)
- Drive platform operations excellence: monitoring, alerting, log aggregation, performance tuning
- Manage runtime upgrades, patch management, and platform health
- Establish SLA/SLO frameworks and observability practices using Anypoint Monitoring and external APM tools
- Ensure integrations meet HIPAA, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, and medical device cybersecurity requirements
- Implement data privacy controls, encryption standards, and audit logging
- Conduct security assessments and vulnerability management for integration assets
- Collaborate with InfoSec teams on penetration testing, threat modeling, and compliance audits
- Communicate architecture decisions and integration roadmap to executive leadership and business stakeholders
- Manage external partner relationships and API consumer engagement
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with product, mobile, backend, and data teams
- Present technical concepts to non-technical audiences with clarity and impact
Required Qualifications
Experience & Leadership
- 8+ years in enterprise integration development and architecture
- 3+ years in MuleSoft architecture roles with proven architectural design expertise
- 3+ years managing and leading integration teams (5+ engineers, onshore/offshore/contractor models)
- Demonstrated success establishing Centers of Excellence (CoE) or Centers for Enablement (C4E)
- Experience in regulated industries, preferably medical device, healthcare, or pharmaceuticals
- Deep, hands-on expertise with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform:
- CloudHub 2.0 (Shared Spaces, Private Spaces, Replica sets, autoscaling)
- API Manager (policies, SLA tiers, client applications, analytics)
- Anypoint Exchange (asset management, API specifications, templates)
- Anypoint MQ (queues, exchanges, dead letter queues)
- Anypoint Monitoring (dashboards, alerts, logs)
- Runtime Fabric (Kubernetes-based deployments) - preferred
- Expert-level proficiency in DataWeave transformations and custom modules
- Strong understanding of Anypoint connectors, custom connectors, and SDK development
- Mastery of API-led connectivity principles (Experience, Process, System API layers)
- Hands-on experience applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) to API and integration architecture
- Expertise in microservices architecture, bounded contexts, and service decomposition
- Strong knowledge of event-driven architecture patterns (pub/sub, event sourcing, CQRS, saga patterns)
- Experience with RESTful API design, OpenAPI/RAML specifications, and API versioning strategies
- Understanding of integration patterns: orchestration, choreography, request-reply, fire-and-forget, scatter-gather
- Hands-on experience integrating MuleSoft with AWS services (API Gateway, Lambda, EventBridge, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, SNS/SQS, Secrets Manager)
- Hands-on experience integrating MuleSoft with Azure services (API Management, Function Apps, Service Bus, Event Grid, Cosmos DB, Key Vault)
- Understanding of cloud networking: VPCs, VNets, VPN, Transit Gateway, ExpressRoute, load balancers
- Knowledge of HA/DR strategies, multi-region deployments, and failover mechanisms
- Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines for MuleSoft using: GitHub Actions, JFrog etc.
- Automated testing frameworks (MUnit, Postman/Newman, Pact)
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for cloud resources
- Experience implementing identity and access management with Okta, Azure AD, or AWS Cognito
- Strong understanding of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SAML, JWT
- Knowledge of API security patterns: rate limiting, threat protection, payload encryption, tokenization
- Familiarity with certificate management, mTLS, and PKI
- Excellent communication skills with ability to influence senior stakeholders
- Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Strong presentation and documentation skills
- Experience managing budgets, vendors, and contractor relationships a plus

Certifications
- MuleSoft Certified Integration Architect or MuleSoft Certified Platform Architect
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Azure Solutions Architect
- Flex Gateway: Experience with MuleSoft's lightweight API gateway for edge, microservices, and decentralized deployments
- Agentic AI Fabric: Familiarity with AI-driven integration patterns, intelligent routing, or agentic workflow orchestration
- GraphQL: Experience designing and implementing GraphQL APIs, federation, and Apollo/GraphQL gateway integration
- Deep understanding of healthcare interoperability standards: FHIR (R4/R5), HL7 v2/v3, DICOM, IHE profiles
- Knowledge of FDA cybersecurity guidance for medical devices and pre-market submissions
- Familiarity with EHR integration (Epic, Cerner, Allscripts)
- Knowledge of API monetization, developer portals, and API product management
- Experience with observability tools: Splunk, Datadog or Dynatrace
- Familiarity with SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) for enterprise agility
- Database knowledge: SQL, NoSQL, data modeling
- Scripting languages: Python, Groovy, Shell
- Strategic thinker with ability to balance long-term vision with short-term execution

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related technical field

- Travel: Up to 25% for team collaboration, technical workshops, or customer engagements

Additional Information:
Compensation & Benefits: For U.S.-based positions only, the annual base salary range for this role is $148,200.00 - $222,300.00 This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation.
