Moran Towing Corporation ( www.morantug.com ) has an opportunity available for an Operations Manager, for Moran Port Arthur . This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position reporting to the General Manager.Moran Towing Corporation is one of the oldest companies in America and has prospered by continuously reinventing itself for over 160 years. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Operations Manager oversees marine and shoreside daily operations. This position is responsible for promoting and ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures and regulatory guidelines. The Operations Manager effectively works in an unsupervised capacity, 'owns' the job, and communicates effectively with corporate departments as well as tug Captains.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited, to the following:
Operations
• Schedules and ensures proper manning of tugs.
• Monitors Dispatch assignment of vessels.
• Schedules and monitors required professional enrichment and technical training, both internal and external, for marine and shoreside personnel.
• Ensures all mariner licensing is up to date and valid.
• Assists in training employees through regularly scheduled Safety Meetings.
• Ensures compliance with the Safety Management System (SMS) by monitoring, reviewing, and addressing all drills, vessel checks and training requirements.
• Reviews tugs through informal inspections for proper documentation and operations in accordance with Company policies and procedures and in preparation for internal and ABS audits. Attends, schedules, and participates with internal and external audits.
• Reviews, monitors, investigates, and follows up when needed with entries into claims database (Origami).
• Reviews, monitors, and follows up when needed with entries into OMS.
• Assists in organizing and attending Behavior Based Safety Meetings.
• Assists in recruiting and hiring of mariners, including interviewing candidates, background checks, drug testing, and E-Verify.
• Monitors vessel line usage and records / updates inventory as needed.
• Assists in purchasing and cost monitoring of requisitions and purchases by marine and shoreside personnel. Continually searches for improvement to efficiency and cost reduction.
• Communicates with customers, vessel agents, vendors, regulatory agencies, and Moran personnel in operational and support functions throughout the Company.
• Evaluates P&L and other financial reports with the General Manager to operate within monthly and annual budgets. Participates when directed in preparing the annual budget.
• Assists, as applicable in managing the pier facility and office.
• Other responsibilities as directed by the General Manager.
Engineering
• Reviews with Port Engineer all Preventative Maintenance tasks that cannot be performed onboard are entered into the repair order system. Assurance all training on these tasks is completed.
• Communicates to the General Manager recommendations for issues that cannot be addressed by local port engineering staff.
• Monitors engineer training to include orientations and instruction by port engineering staff.
• Assists in scheduling repairs with port engineering staff for tug maintenance and repairs, including utilization of outside vendors.
• Schedules repair periods with the dispatchers to coordinate downtime and minimize service interruptions.
• Ensures proper documentation and entries are completed in OMS.
• Reviews with engineering staff that adequate spare parts are available for future repairs.
Accounting and Administration
• Reviews customer invoices through billing system (HELM), ensuring accuracy of customer and charges.
• Receives and reviews Payroll worksheets from tugs ensuring it is accurately entered into worksheet data for Mariner Time & Attendance (MTA).
• Monitors Accounts Receivable and follows up to customers.
• Monitors and approves Accounts Payable.
• Maintains required documents electronically in UKG and in personnel folders.
• Ensures month-end reporting accurately includes engine hours, number of jobs, and fuel consumption.
REQUIRED Qualifications:
• Minimum 2-year college degree; however, relevant work experience will be considered with education.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.
• Valid driver's license and Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
• Proven successful management experience, demonstrated strong leadership skills and decisive decision-making ability.
• Ability to work effectively individually and as a team member.
• Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to take initiative, multi-task, interpret data, speak publicly, operate in stressful situations, and make quick decisions.
• Demonstrated good judgment, initiative, and organizational skills.
• Intermediate level Microsoft Office computer skills, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors' degree in transportation or marine engineering.
- Operations experience in the maritime industry.
- USCG licensed Master of Towing Vessels.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Board a vessel while moored via barge landing or underway via crew boat and withstand tug motion and high temperature areas for periods of time.
• Cross bulwarks, walk on uneven surfaces, and climb ladders and stairs.
• Stoop, bend, and sit for prolonged periods of time using a keyboard and computer screen.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Hours of work are business hours Monday through Friday, but the incumbent must be available, if required, during off-hours, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time.

PAY TRANSPARENCY:
Moran Towing Corporation offers generous benefits, opportunities for professional growth, and competitive salaries based on geographic location. Our target pay range for the Operations Manager position is $80,000 -$95,000 per year. This pay range represents Moran's commitment to pay transparency and is a reasonable estimate of possible compensation for this role at the time of posting. The final salary for this role will be determined based on careful consideration of a variety of factors, such as the candidate's exa ct location, experience, and expertise related to the qualifications.
