Position Overview
We are seeking a highly technical Outside Sales Representative to lead business development and territory growth for our Triple Offset Valve (TOV) and automation solutions. This role will focus on the NY/NJ metro area and the broader Northeast region, working closely with engineering firms, end users, universities, colleges, power plants, and mechanical contractors.
The ideal candidate has strong technical aptitude, experience with industrial valves/automation, and a proven ability to build relationships, create demand, and close complex solution-based sales.
Key Responsibilities
Territory & Business Development
- Develop and execute a strategic sales plan to grow TOV and automation business across the NY/NJ metro and Northeast markets.
- Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities with power generation facilities, universities, colleges, and engineering/consulting firms.
- Maintain and expand relationships with existing customers, channel partners, and key stakeholders.
- Work with existing Outside Sales Representatives within the territory to help develop leads and sales.
Technical Sales & Solution Support
- Provide technical expertise on Triple Offset Valves, actuation, and automation controls.
- Deliver product presentations, lunch-and-learns, and field demonstrations for engineering teams and end users.
- Interpret technical specifications, P&IDs, and bid documents to position the appropriate valve and automation solutions.
- Assist customers and internal teams with valve sizing, selection, and application engineering.
Customer Engagement & Account Management
- Conduct regular onsite visits (approximately 50% travel) to customer facilities and job sites.
- Manage the entire sales cycle—from prospecting and quoting to negotiation and closing.
- Work closely with inside sales, engineering, and factory teams to deliver accurate proposals and technical support.
Market Intelligence & Reporting
- Track market trends, competitor activities, and upcoming project opportunities.
- Maintain CRM data, forecast sales, and report territory performance to management.
- Representing the company at industry events, trade shows, and professional associations.
Required Qualifications
- 35+ years of outside sales experience in industrial products, valves, automation, instrumentation, or related mechanical/electrical products.
- Strong technical understanding of valves, actuation, flow control, or mechanical/industrial systems.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and process documentation.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Self-motivated, organized, and capable of managing a multi-state territory.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 50%.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience selling Triple Offset Valves, high-performance valves, or automation packages.
- Background in industrial power generation or institutional markets (universities, hospitals, utilities).
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technical Sales, Business, or related field.
