We are hiring immediately for a Full-time Phlebotomist to join the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Houston, Tx. In this position, you will collect and process blood specimens under the direction of a principal investigator or provider. Supporting the Texas Firefighter Cancer Study that involves travel to field sites across the state of Texas. Ideal candidate should have working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. CPT certification & bilingual in Spanish are preferred.

Position Summary:

Collects and processes blood specimens under the direction of a principal investigator, or provider. Supports Texas Firefighter Cancer Study that involves travel to field sites across the state of Texas.

Position Key Accountabilities:

• Handles specimens and maintains laboratory according to clinical guidelines.
• Maintains specimen integrity for transport to lab or point of care testing location.
• Prepares and ships specimens to core laboratories for processing.
• Screen participants located in the field sites (e.g., fire department) for eligibility into various research protocols.
• Interview eligible participants and invite them to participate by obtaining informed consent.
• Conduct interviews; collect, identify, and process blood samples according to research protocol guideline.
• Input data into database for research protocols.
• Communicates study participants questions or concerns to the principal investigator or research team.
• Maintains regulatory files under the direction of the principal investigator .
• Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

• Knowledge of MS Office applications.
• Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
• Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) by National Healthcareer Association (NHA) preferred

Minimum Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a specialized phlebotomy training program is preferred.

• None.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
