POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Operates, maintains, repairs, installs and modifies various types of equipment used to photograph test events at the Holloman High Speed Test Track. Equipment will include: NTSC video equipment; forward-looking Infrared (FLIR) cameras; high speed digital cameras and computer support equipment; image motion compensation (IMC) cameras; high speed rotating prism cameras; pin registered cameras; and Kineto Tracking Mounts (KTM) including automated tracking and control equipment. Configures and pre-tests equipment prior to test support to verify that operation is within original manufacturer's specifications and established test support parameters. Applies advanced technical knowledge to maintain and solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing the manufacturer's manuals or similar documents. Interprets and incorporates engineering changes to existing optical equipment.
Work will be reviewed by supervisor for compliance with approved procedures and accepted practices. May be required to provide technical guidance to lower level technicians.
Responsibilities will include cross-utilization in other jobs as required. May require TDY, overtime and weekend work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstration of satisfactory skill and good performance in the particular field; three years progressive experience in the specific field in addition to graduation from a two year resident course at a technical institute, or a total of six years progressive experience in the specific field. Demonstrated skills must include all equipment listed in the position description above. In addition, must have demonstrated knowledge of photographic techniques to include; flash illumination; background enhancement; mirrored views; overhead configurations; air flow recording (schlieren) techniques and the ability to optimize equipment setup including exposure, blur and field of view to record the planned test event. Applicant must possess a valid driver's license. Applicant selected may be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Physical Requirements: May be required to perform duties during heavy mission schedules and stressful requirement constraints. Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions. May require work in close quarters and hard to maneuver locations such as in the fuselage of a test sled vehicle. Must be able to climb bridges, towers, ladders bunkers, and lift heavy articles (up to 75 pounds).
Desired Qualifications: Possess the ability to use computer equipment to set up and control high speed digital cameras, automated tracking algorithms for tracking instruments, and the ability to use word processing and spreadsheet software for mission reporting. Possess the ability to fabricate Ethernet, video, and power cables, and the ability to use available power and hand tools to fabricate wooden and metal support structures.
