Description
UCM is looking for a part-time photography technician for Art & Design. The photography technician oversees the daily operations of a dynamic multimedia photography program, including technical support for specialized photography labs and studios, management of equipment inventory, upkeep, repair, and checkout, training of photography equipment/materials, and providing support for the photography area's overall mission.
Examples of Duties
Responsibilities:
• Ensure all studio equipment (lighting, modifiers, backdrops, props, and grip gear) is properly maintained and functioning.
• Ensure that the conditions of the studios, printers, darkrooms, and equipment areas are kept neat, clean, orderly, and properly functioning at all times.
• Open and/or shut down photography facilities as scheduled.
• Provide technical support.
• Investigate routine problems and technology related issues and find solutions for a variety of printers and cutting equipment.
• Calibrate monitors, and manage ICC color profiles for consistent print output.
• Oversee mixing and disposal of chemistry in accordance with safety/environmental standards.
• Monitor chemical stocks, enlargers, safelights, and ventilation system.
• Manage photography equipment inventory with over 500+ photography items.
• Manage checkout and reservation software.
• Provide training workshops over proper use of photographic equipment, accessories, and studio equipment.
• Ensure proper maintenance of checkout photography equipment.
• Identify broken equipment and coordinate repairs to ensure all tools have necessary parts and are in working order for students.
• Receive, verify, and stock deliveries.
• Communicate departmental policies and procedures to students, regarding equipment sign-out, studio use, and general facility use.
• Ensure student assistant maintains the security of equipment and facilitates safety policies and procedures.
• Direct projects and manage tasks, ensuring timely completion and alignment with organizational goals.
• Streamline operations and labs to better meet student needs.
• Provide support for special projects as required.
• Work closely with fellow photography staff to maintain smooth, successful daily operation of the photography area.
Typical Qualifications
Qualifications:
A photography degree is highly desired.
Experience in studio photography.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
Experience with color management in a digital lab environment.
Knowledge of checkout equipment procedures.
W orking experience with Adobe Photoshop CS, Lightroom, Mac OSX and Windows PC.

Monday - Friday 20 hours week
