Position Overview
The Clinical Natural Language Processing and Artificial Intelligence Innovation Laboratory (PittNAIL) at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a highly motivated and qualified postdoctoral researcher to join our multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will work at the intersection of generative AI, natural language processing (NLP), and healthcare, contributing to projects that advance medical informatics and AI-driven health applications.

The ideal candidate should be passionate about applying AI and NLP to real-world healthcare problems and eager to broaden their expertise in implementation science and intervention science, learning how these domains are applied to AI in healthcare. Candidates should possess strong programming and analytical skills, as well as familiarity with state-of-the-art NLP and large language model (LLM) frameworks.

Qualifications and Skills

-PhD in Computer Science, Information Science, Informatics, Biomedical Informatics, or a related discipline.
-Strong background in natural language processing, deep learning, large language models, and generative AI.
-Demonstrated scientific productivity, such as first-author publications in high-impact computer science, data science, or informatics journals or conferences.
-Proficiency in Python, SQL, and modern AI frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
-Effective written and oral communication skills.
-Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team.
-Strong interest in learning clinical and biomedical knowledge, such as stroke, health interventions, and clinical trials.

Mentoring and Environment

The postdoctoral associate will be directly mentored by Dr. Yanshan Wang, a recognized researcher in clinical NLP and AI. The postdoctoral associate will collaborate with other researchers, clinicians, and postdocs from the University of Pittsburgh, UPMC, and the VA Healthcare System.
