Position Summary
The Principal Architect serves as the technical authority for Hexeon, DivisionHexs main delivery platform (a microservices architecture application). This role is responsible for defining and evolving the platforms architectural vision, ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability across all services. The Principal Architect, while overseeing engineering teams, collaborates with Product Managers and stakeholders to translate business objectives into robust architectural designs and technical standards.
What You'll Do
- Ensure architectural decisions optimize system performance, scalability, and cost efficiency in alignment with the product roadmap.
- Provide architectural guidance and technical leadership across distributed teams and multiple projects, ensuring alignment with platform standards and best practices.
- Promote architectural consistency and knowledge sharing across remote teams through documentation, design reviews, and technical workshops.
- Evaluate and approve third-party tools, frameworks, and technology vendors to ensure compatibility with architectural standards and security requirements.
- Collaborate with external technical partners to ensure their deliverables meet architectural and security standards.
- Oversee technical compliance and licensing for software components and third-party integrations.
- Own architectural compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and security standards across all application layers.
- Ownership and maintenance of technical stack, including security and licensing requirements.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define architectural solutions that meet business objectives and technical constraints
- Drive architectural research and design initiatives, and provide technical guidance during the transition to development for implementation.
- Work with Product Management to provide level of effort estimates for features being envisioned
- Created & Maintains design documentation, master feature lists, etc.
- Mentor engineers and perform periodic application architecture reviews with team leads.
- Assist team leads with code reviews.
- Work with Managers to create and cultivate software development processes and best practices.
- Evaluate development tools and frameworks to ensure they support architectural goals for quality, security, and scalability.
- Explore additional technology stacks to help guide strategic expansions to Coalfires offerings.
What You'll Bring
- Experience managing geographically distributed development teams
- Strong agile software development experience
- Effective communication in dynamic, fast-paced situations
- Minimum of 10 years experience with C#, JavaScript, and agile software development
- 5+ years secure architecture related experience using modern software engineering processes and tools, such as:
- MongoDB
- Apache Kafka
- Secure cloud computing platform experience
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
- Container orchestration (EKS)
- Serverless architectures (Lambda, API Gateway)
- Event-driven architecture, stream processing, and consistency patterns
- CI/CD, DevOps, etc.
- Docker
- Working knowledge of secure coding practices, threat modeling, and compliance frameworks
- Performance and scalability optimization
- Integrity and strong ethical standards, commitment to deadlines, service minded, collaborative, organized with time management, and adaptable learner are all important skills to this position
Preferred:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in related field
- Experience working to drive threat-focused cybersecurity outcomes for customers via software development
- Experience with Azure DevOps, Octopus, and Jira Software
- Experience with integrations around the ServiceNow platform
- Experience leveraging AI tools in the software development lifecycle to improve quality and efficiency
Work Environment
- This is a fully remote management position. The successful candidate will lead a distributed team across multiple time zones and must be comfortable working in a virtual environment.

- Minimal travel, including international travel, may be required.
