Description
The College of Engineering at USF invites applications for an outstanding leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. This is an exceptional opportunity to shape the future of a dynamic and rapidly growing department. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, a collaborative leadership style, and the ability to build consensus while advancing the department's strategic vision of excellence in engineering education, high-impact research, and professional leadership that serves global development. The Chair will work closely with departmental faculty and partners throughout the College of Engineering and the University of South Florida to strengthen and expand Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering programs. The appointment is expected to begin in August 2026.\n
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution. Candidates should qualify to be appointed as a tenured full professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. The successful candidate will articulate a vision to continue elevating USF MAE's vibrant and internationally recognized research efforts, its excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, and its engagement with federal, industrial and community partners and funding agencies. They will demonstrate a record of leadership in areas relevant to these goals, including the following:

- Success in leadership roles including activities such as recruiting, program development, mentorship, team-building, and staff supervision. \n
- Demonstrated record of mentoring students, staff, and junior faculty contributing to their successful career progression and development; \n
- An internationally recognized scholarship profile; \n
- Demonstrated commitment to high-quality pedagogy and student development; \n
- A significant record of leadership (elected or nominated) in professional institutes and societies \n

The department has 31 faculty members and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in both Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering. Faculty in the department actively collaborate with colleagues across the College of Engineering and other USF colleges, including Medicine, Arts & Sciences, Marine Science, Education, Nursing, and Public Health. The department also maintains strong partnerships with several USF research centers, such as the Nanotechnology Research and Education Center , Center for Urban Transportation Research , Center for Assistive Rehabilitation & Robotics Technologies , Clean Energy Research Center , H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, and Global Center for Hearing and Speech Research.
