Job Summary:
This position reports to the Assistant Controller and interacts with the accounting team as well as the operations managers and teams in implementing and executing the Company's accounting policies, controls, and in reporting on the financial health and operations of the company. This position is responsible for supporting assigned business units and related project accounting activities. Strong communication skills, intellectual curiosity, creativity, a commitment to quality and process improvement, and a strong desire to learn are required.
Duties include the execution and implementation of accounting practices and operations, and internal controls, and support of internal and external financial reporting, audits, process improvements within the accounting team, and contributions to a strong, service-oriented team.
This foundational role for our accounting department presents an opportunity to learn and shape accounting processes for a rapidly growing business.
Essential Functions:
1.) Reports to the Assistant Controller and works with other department managers and staff on accounting related matters.
- Partners with the Assistant Controller in the execution of the daily, weekly, and monthly tactical accounting activities necessary to maintain the Company's books and records in accordance with GAAP.
- Assist in implementing and executing the Company's accounting policies and internal controls.
- Meet monthly and other periodic accounting deadlines and reporting needs, under the oversight of the Assistant Controller.
- Facilitate and support reporting requirements.
2.) Hands-on responsibilities in the areas of General Accounting, Project Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Inventory, and Internal Control and execution of Financial Reporting functions.
Accounting, Tax, & Reporting
- Support the Assistant Controller in the preparation of monthly financial statements and the consolidated financial statements & footnote disclosures in compliance with US GAAP, and any other corporate/debtholder or ownership/PE sponsor reporting or information requirements.
- Partner with the Assistant Controller in the execution of the daily, weekly, and monthly tactical accounting activities necessary to maintain the Company's books and records in accordance with GAAP, including:
- Assist in execution of the Company's accounting policies and internal controls.
- Complete reconciliations.
- Meet monthly and other periodic accounting deadlines.
- Support & execute financial management and accounting for projects:
- Ensure compliance with customer requirements for invoicing.
- Track and reconcile cash flow for project expenditures.
- Ensure timely disbursements to vendors and subcontractors.
- Assist Project Teams in creating and maintain project budgets for both pre-development and construction phases.
- Prepare and post journal entries related to project accounting
- Verify work of the coordinators related to postings into project and how they post to the GL.
- Maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules for accurate project cost tracking.
- Reconcile project financial data between project management (Smart Sheet) and financial system.
- Generate ad-hoc and recurring financial reports for project stakeholders.
- Coordinate the setting up of financial data for new projects, including budget creation, contract execution, and funding structures.
- Support financial closeout processes for completed projects. Complete ad hoc projects.
- Respond to questions and issues and communicate responses to operations and other functional areas.
- Identify process improvement opportunities as it relates to the individual's area of responsibility
- Work with the Project Management and Development teams to ensure alignment between financial reporting and project execution.
- Act as a liaison with the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams to monitor payments and cash application.
- Support multiple Companies Project and Development teams in financial planning, budgeting, project management & maintenance.
- Monitor Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) aging reports to ensure timely payments and collections.
- Demonstrate a strong awareness and understanding of internal control activities within the team to promote sound business practices and a strong internal control environment.
- Create and maintain up-to-date process documentation.
- Seek and deliver cross-training.
- Engage professionally in written and oral communications with all team members, customers, and vendors.
- Identify, discuss, and help to implement opportunities for process improvement under the oversight of the Assistant Controller.
- Facilitate completion of annual audits, compilations, or reviews. m. Support the implementation of new standards as needed.
Treasury:
- Execute assigned duties in such a manner to safeguard the company's assets.
- Ensure that periodic reconciliations of cash, investment, and credit card accounts are completed within the established timelines and any reconciling differences are discussed and resolved.
- Support the Assistant Controller in the development of a strong team focused on people development, accountability, respect and driving for results.
- Support the team by administering responsibilities in an efficient manner and utilizing sound internal controls.
- Responsibilities may include supporting activities related to training, coaching, and daily or project work direction.
- Regularly consult with the Controller on the performance against personal and team performance objectives.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the team by supporting cross-training, feedback, opportunity for professional growth, and the development of rising talent for the Company.
- Drive process change to gain efficiencies in overall accounting and business processes.
- Identify and discuss opportunities for process improvement and efficiency with the Assistant Controller.
- Implement improvements under the oversight of the Assistant Controller.
- Drive an awareness and understanding of internal control activities within the team to maintain sound business practices and a strong internal control environment.
- Establishes and maintains strong collaborative relationships with other company leaders to ensure a timely, effective exchange of information.
- Work closely with all internal departments regarding internal control and accounting matters. b. Work closely with IT to develop, implement, and enhance financial systems and processes.
Requirements
- Degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field is strongly preferred
- Minimum of 2-5 years of progressively responsible operational experience within an accounting function.
- Prior project accounting experience is required, preferably in Construction, Project Development, Percentage of
- Completion Accounting, Milestone Accounting, Job Cost Accounting.
- Basic knowledge of GAAP, external reporting requirements and internal control compliance and design, with experience in equipment inventory and fixed asset intensive businesses
- Experience working with Dynamics 365, Navision or SoftBase is strongly preferred
- Strong technology skills including expertise in MS Excel
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Good problem-solving and creative skills with an ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- A proven track record in meeting deadlines and working collaboratively as part of a team are essential
