This role is responsible for collecting and delivering samples to the laboratory for routine analysis across all product areas. Additional duties include pulling extra samples as directed, aseptically preparing samples when required, performing routine inspections, and promptly reporting any issues to the Shift Supervisor or Manager of Analytical Services. PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Pick up and deliver samples to the lab according to the inspectors' sampling schedule.
- Obtain environmental and process water recovery samples and deliver the samples to the lab according to the inspectors' sampling schedule.
- Obtain reprobes when necessary.
- Measure the river temperature once per week.
- Prepare aseptic samples for micro analysis.
- Pull aseptic water samples for micro analysis.
- Follow good sampling procedures and maintain good organizational skills and know how to prioritize the workload.
- Perform monthly Sanitation Audits according to the schedule set by the Manager of Analytical Services.
- Perform inspection of firewater pump and alcohol loadout twice per shift and record times in the electronic log.
- Report any issues or observations that may have an impact on product quality to the Manager of Analytical Services.
- Inspect the lab vehicle once per shift and report any issues or damage in the electronic log. Check levels once per week.
- Inspect the pipe rack to ensure no starch leaks periodically and record in the inspector's shift log
- Maintain a detailed electronic log of activities, problems, or issues for each shift.
- Sign for samples received in areas where applicable.
- Use LIMS to log in samples as they are received.
- Record river temperature results in LIMS.
- Record all data in a manner compliant with cGMPs.
- Submit accurate monthly department time charges to the Manager of Analytical Services.
- Be able to train new inspectors as needed.
- Follow all lab and plant safety rules.
- Report any safety issues to the Chemist, Manager, or Safety Department.
- Impart ideas and suggestions to improve safety.
- Attend all safety meetings.
- Practice good housekeeping.
- Maintain good communication with all employees.
- Maintain sample library by following the retain sample schedule.
- Dump waste feed, starch, and alcohol products in appropriate areas at or near the end of each shift.
- Wash alcohol bottles when needed and deliver to the alcohol department upon request.
- Add steepwater to the sanitary once per shift.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid driver's license
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to lift up to 55 lbs. multiple times throughout the shift
- Ability to safely work at elevated levels
- Must be dependable and reliable
- Must be detail-oriented
- Must be organized
- Must be able to follow directions
- Good PC skills (e-mail, Word, Excel, internet, ability to learn basic LIMS functions)
- Must be able to work independently as well as with others
- Ability to make decisions independently with little or no supervision.
EXPERIENCE:
Prior Manufacturing/Quality Assurance experience is desired but not required.
OTHER:
- Must be willing to work a rotating 12-hour shift that includes days and nights.
- Must be willing to work weekends and holidays and to be on-call for sick coverage.
- Overtime is required to cover vacancies, vacations, and training.
- Regular attendance is required.
