Description
Job Summary:The Quality Technician performs roving audits, inspection and measurement of manufacturing processes and products to assure conformance to established standards and criteria on the movement and shipment of first quality goods to both internal and external customers. The Technician accurately records and documents their results, reporting defects and non-compliance to appropriate personnel. They must be able to work independently and unsupervised, with the ability to perform required tasks while remaining flexible and adaptable to changing workload and conditions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communicate and train employees on Quality Assurance subject matter including Standard Work and QA measurement and monitoring of product/process throughout the course of their shift and inspections.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives relating to product quality and safety.
- Understand and support the Quality Management System
- Ensure operations personnel follow proper procedures for ongoing product quality inspection and output.
- Ensure specified incoming materials comply with required specifications.
- Attend and represent quality at various production shift meetings for quality focus and training as needed.
- Assist with the gauge calibration program - both performance of specified internal verifications and assistance with external calibration and repair notifications to Quality Manager and team.
- Schedule, follow up on action items, develop audits as required to improve quality areas in the plant.
- Serve on the Standard Work Audit team as an auditor.
- Perform any special training and communication with operations as directed by the Quality Leadership
- Assist with customer complaint investigation.
- Perform special inspections and audits as required.
- Perform RMA inspection, disposition and process functions as needed.
- Assist and participate in problem solving, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Control documents needed for the plant and provide guidance in updating, creation, or development of new as required from the department leaders.
- Travel periodically (≤ 5%)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 3-5 years of Quality Inspection experience at similar level in a manufacturing environment.
- Quality training/certifications preferred.
- Experience in an ISO 9001 environment is preferred.
- Ability to interact and communicate professionally and effectively across operations and sales departments with a positive, team-work attitude and with a level of authority related to product quality and customer satisfaction.
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced production environment.
- Proven attention to detail and accuracy is required.
- Solid analytical skills and solution-driven thinking; collects and researches data; uses intuition and experience to complement data to make good decisions and recommendations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications - particularly Word & Excel to above-average/intermediate level
- Ability to read and interpret basic dimensional drawings; proficient in use of measuring gauges including but not exclusive to; calipers, micrometers, tape measures & rulers, go/no-go gauges.
- Must be able to pass a color variance screening and have excellent visual acuity.
- Must be safety-conscious and carry out work responsibilities in a safe manner.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed on a variety of shifts, overtime as needed.
- Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple efforts with strong results/goal orientation.
- Must have a valid driver's license, as travel to other facilities may be necessary to assist with quality duties.
Work Environment:

- Office Environment: This position may operate in an office environment and is not expected to adverse environmental conditions.
- Manufacturing Environment: This position may operate in a manufacturing setting with conditions of high-pressure air/steam/gas, hazardous gas/chemical fumes, extreme heat and temperature variations, loud noise, exposure to dangerous machinery, dirty work environment and/or exposure to dust (pigment). The position is required to wear PPE including, but not limited to safety glasses, steel toe/composite boots and earplugs.
