This position is responsible for maintaining rail corridors and associated facilities to include working on track, right-of-way, rail stations, platforms, and facilities. This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules and regulations of the RTD Drug and Alcohol Policy.Duties & Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL:
- Conducts self in an appropriate manner as a representative of RTD, working effectively in a diverse work environment using prudent judgment at all times, performing duties in a safe manner, and assuring professional quality of work to all external and internal customers.
- Loads and unloads heavy materials, obtains necessary material and equipment, and removes debris and maintains a clean, safe worksite.
- Removes and installs railroad ties, rails, turnouts, track fastenings, and track switches, ensuring the safe and proper operation of all vehicles, material, and equipment.
- Assists in snow removal duties for the right-of-way and light rail facilities.
- Cleans and maintains track drains and ditches, grade crossings, fences, flange ways, and rights-of-way.
- Conducts weed control along the right-of-way.
- Lubricates track and track switches, removes and tightens bolts, assists in track surfacing, alignment, gauging, jacking, and tamping and performs other related maintenance of way duties as directed.
- Assists other employees as assigned in the maintenance, handling, and repair of rail shop equipment, stations, platforms, power signal, and related wayside equipment in a safe and proper manner.
- Assists in re-railing operations and operates various rail equipment and other service vehicles; uses air, electric, and hydraulic power tools and equipment utilized in the performance of maintenance of way duties.
- Performs various physical duties in a maintenance environment, which includes, but is not limited to, working with dust, dirt, gravel, fumes, exhaust, various noise levels, chemicals, in confined spaces, and in various, sometimes extreme, outdoor weather conditions and temperatures as required.

- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least nineteen (19) years of age.
- Not more than five (5) points assessed against motor vehicle record (MVR) in the past two (2) years as well as possessing a continually valid driver's license for the past two (2) years. Also no DUI, DWI, or reckless driving in the past 24 months.
- Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination by obtaining a DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate for a minimum of a 2-year qualifying period and then maintain a current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate thereafter.
- Ability to pass a RTD required Physical Ability Assessment (PAA) related to the physical requirements of the essential functions of the job.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a current valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License with an air brake endorsement (CDL Class A).
- Demonstrated ability to bend, stoop, reach, twist, climb and work at heights up to 20 feet, access confined areas, push/pull up to 125 pounds, lift/carry up to 80 pounds, and horizontally move equipment weighing up to 90 pounds.
- Ability to stand and sit for an extended length of time and walk long distances for long periods of time on uneven terrain to include railroad ballast and icy ground.
- Ability to work in a standard maintenance environment, which can include, but is not limited to, working with dust, dirt, gravel, fumes, exhaust, various noise levels, various temperatures, and chemicals for an extended length of time as well as in various outdoor, sometimes extreme, weather conditions as required.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail, ensuring safety in work and rail operations.
- Ability to stay alert and aware of surrounding operating environment.
- Ability to read and understand safety labels and operating instructions.
- Ability to follow directions with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, which can include working various days, hours, and shifts.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse workforce.

Working Environment and Physical Requirements:
The work environment and physical demands described below are representative of those required by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk on even and uneven, rocky terrain (ballasted track); reach with arms and hands; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, or crawl; speak, hear, taste or smell.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus and ability to work in nighttime darkness with artificial illumination.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles and trains, risk of high voltage electrical shock and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; regularly required to work in high, precarious places up to 20 feet and regularly required to work in subterranean, confined places where high voltage electricity is present; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; all outside weather conditions; explosives and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

Additional Pay Information: Upon obtaining two (2) certifications within first 60 days the hourly rate will increase $1.00 per hour, per certification.
