This position is responsible for maintaining rail corridors and associated facilities to include working on track, right-of-way and wayside elements, rail stations, platforms, and facilities. This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules and regulations of the RTD FRA Drug and Alcohol Policy. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:- Conducts self in an appropriate manner as a representative of RTD, working effectively in a diverse work environment using prudent judgment at all times, performing duties in a safe manner, and assuring professional quality of work to all external and internal customers.
- Work includes but not limited to digging, cable repair, housekeeping, assembly of signal equipment, wiring of signal equipment, pole line work, cleaning and maintains track drains and ditches, grade crossings, fences, flange ways, rights of-way, and report problems, failures or unsafe conditions.
- Performs cutting, drilling, grinding and welding functions of rail and track components in a safe and proper manner.
- Performs all job duties, including but not limited to: the operation of RTD vehicles, tools and on track equipment in a safe and proper manner.
- Removes and installs railroad ties, rails, turnouts, track fastenings, and track switches, ensuring the safe and proper operation of all vehicles, material, equipment and additional duties under the Regional Transportation District Commuter Rail's Roadway Worker Protection procedures.
- Lubricates track and track switches, removes and tightens bolts, assists in track surfacing, alignment, gauging, jacking, and tamping and performs other related maintenance of way duties as directed. Further supports repair and maintenance of the overhead contact wire system and traction power sub-stations
- Assists other employees as assigned in the maintenance, handling, and repair of rail shop equipment, stations, platforms, power, signal, and related wayside equipment in a safe and proper manner. Loads and unloads heavy materials, obtains necessary material and equipment, and removes debris and maintains a clean, safe worksite.
- Responds to emergencies, accidents, snow storm support, special event support and special assignments required from operations.
- Conducts weed control along the right-of-way.
- Assists in re-railing operations and operates various rail equipment and other service vehicles; uses air, electric, and hydraulic power tools and equipment utilized in the performance of maintenance of way duties.
OTHER:
- Current work schedule is 4X10 hour shifts with rotating weekends on call.
- All other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior FRA-regulated railroad operating experience preferred with a work history that demonstrates the ability to maintain alertness, awareness and vigilance, as well as clear, effective verbal communication skills in the performance of work.
- In accordance with FRA regulations, applicant driver's license must provide a certified copy of motor vehicle driving record and must be void of any drug and alcohol violations within the previous 36 months.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to use sound judgement
- Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing and prioritizing with attention to detail.
- Ability to obtain and retain a thorough understanding of all the Regional Transportation District Commuter Rail's Roadway Worker Protection procedures which are in effect.
- Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination by obtaining a DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate for a minimum of a 2-year qualifying period and then maintain a current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate thereafter.
- The final job offer is contingent upon; successfully passing the two (2) month training program comprised of classroom and field work to obtain the Certified Locomotive Engineer and Conductor license in pursuant to 49 CFR Part 240/242 to operate the CRV, and passing the territory training test to get qualified to operate the CRV on the N Line territory.
- In accordance with the FRA regulations, previous railroad service record for the covered services must be void of any drug and alcohol violations within the previous 24 months.
- Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination by obtaining a DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate for a minimum of a two year qualifying period
- The ability to maintain a current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate thereafter . Medical Examiner must have a National Registry number.
- Ability to pass a required Physical Ability Assessment (PAA) related to the physical requirements of the essential functions of the job.
- Must have or be able to obtain a Colorado Driver's License (Commercial Driver's License, Class A).
- Valid Colorado Motor Vehicle Driver License.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail, ensuring safety in work and rail operations. Ability to stay alert and aware of surrounding operating environment.
- Ability to read and understand safety labels and operating instructions. Ability to follow directions with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, which can include working various days, hours, and shifts.
- Possess a minimum set of required tools specified by RTD Commuter Rail.
Additionally, for internal candidates, as demonstrated in the past six (6) months by:
- No more than three (3) unexcused absence occurrences and three (3) unexcused tardy occurrences.
- No safety violations within the past (6) months.
- No suspensions within the past (6) months.
- Otherwise demonstrated a history of high-performance levels of dependability, reliability, and safety.
- Extenuating circumstances will be reviewed.
- Ability to work unusual hours, split shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

- An equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.

- The employee must have the ability to push/pull up to 125 pounds, lift/carry up to 80 pounds, and horizontally move equipment weighing up to 90 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus and ability to work in nighttime darkness with artificial illumination.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, moving trains; risk of high voltage electrical shock and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; regularly required to work in high, precarious places up to 20 feet and regularly required to work in subterranean, confined places where high voltage electricity is present; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; all outside weather conditions; explosives and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
- Employee is regularly required to work where moving auto/truck vehicular is present.
- Demonstrated ability to bend, stoop, reach, twist, climb and work at heights up to 20 feet, access confined areas

Pay Range:
