- Senior Painter
Description
Located with Facilities Management, the Paint department is hiring a Senior Painter! Facilities Management is responsible for meeting the University's ever-changing needs for facility maintenance, utilities, landscape and custodial services - join our team.
Duties:
- Under general supervision, paints, maintains records and equipment, performs inspections, and provides training.
- Prepares, primes, finishes, strips, cleans, hauls, replaces, or installs all lacquer, enamels, plastic coatings, and clear finishes to all structures and equipment throughout the campus.
- Mixes and matches colors of paint, stain, or varnish with other additives to obtain desired color and consistency.
- Removes any fixtures before painting.
- Remodels or repairs work as needed.
- Maintains records of hours spent on each job and records any materials or supplies used on each job.
- Requisitions materials for work orders.
- May assist the supervisor in establishing proper materials inventory.
- Performs periodic, preventive maintenance inspections at campus facilities and on any paint shop equipment.
- Continues to stay abreast of changing technologies, procedures, and new product items by reading appropriate trade journals, safety codes, and operating manuals.
- Participates in training and educational activities.
- May train others on procedures and operation of equipment.
- May install glass and mirrors or lay carpet.
- May clear ice and snow from sidewalks, streets, and parking areas using hand tools and/or heavy equipment.
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
Requirements
Required Education and Experience: High School Diploma, GED, or Trade School Certification, AND;
- 24 months experience as a Brush Painter or closely related experience.
Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of principles and theory in the safe operation of all job related equipment
- Advanced knowledge of mixing paints, varnishes, and other additives.
- Ability to read, understand, and implement all written procedures, specifications, and blueprints.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Basic math and computer skills.
- Uses tools or equipment with expertise.
- Perform simple recordkeeping requiring logging or filing.
Certifications:
- Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days from hire date.
Working Conditions:
- Physical: Holding heavy equipment. Frequent and repeated bending, stooping, and kneeling. Working with arms extended above head. Frequent lifting and carrying loads in excess of 50 lbs., up or down stairs. Cleaning work areas. Climbing ladders. Repetitive wrist and arm movement. Ability to distinguish colors.
- Environmental: Perform duties using scaffolds and ladders. Regular exposure to odors and fumes. Regular exposure to safety hazards. May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures. May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies.
