Our Unique Work:
The New York Innovation Center (NYIC) conducts technological research, experimentation, and prototyping to generate insights into high-value central-bank-related opportunities. As a group within the New York Fed, the NYIC informs leaders, researchers, and the public about potential applications of new financial technologies in central banking.
How You'll Make an Impact as a Software Solutions Engineer
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including architects, designers, engineers, product managers, and business strategists on research and development initiatives
Support the NYIC team in defining and achieving strategic objectives and key results (OKRs)
Develop comprehensive business cases, implementation roadmaps, and performance metrics to drive strategic execution
Lead innovation through technical research, proof-of-concept development, experimentation, and data-driven analysis
Architect and implement scalable, high-performance applications and libraries with industry best practices for security and reliability
Contribute to technical decision-making and system architecture evolution
Maintain exceptional code quality standards with proper documentation and testing
The Unique Skill Sets We're Looking For
Demonstrated expertise in computer science fundamentals including algorithms, data structures, and system design
Advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C++, Python, Go, Rust, or JavaScript
Exceptional analytical capabilities for complex problem decomposition, hypothesis testing, and developing compelling narratives based on findings
Proven track record of independent problem-solving while also thriving in collaborative team environments
Outstanding communication skills with ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Passionate about continuous learning with demonstrated ability to quickly master new programming languages, frameworks, and methodologies
Experience with Agile development methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and project management tools
Knowledge of cloud infrastructure automation using IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible) across AWS/Azure environments, with hands-on experience in containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and multi-OS deployments
Ability to design and implement robust CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Jenkins, Nexus) with advanced automation capabilities and comprehensive testing framework

This is a temporary position with an anticipated maximum duration of two years.
Salary Range: $130,600

This position requires access to confidential supervisory information (CSI) and/or Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) information. Access to CSI and FOMC information is limited to U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, individuals who meet the definition of "protected individual" under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3), and certain other nonimmigrants. All non-U.S. citizens authorized to access CSI and/or FOMC information must sign a declaration of intent to expeditiously become a lawful permanent resident and thereafter a U.S. citizen when eligible.
