Position Summary:
The Staff Development Coordinator / Infection Preventionist is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and directing clinical education and infection prevention programs in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position partners closely with the Director of Nursing, Administrator, and leadership team to promote staff competency, regulatory compliance, and safe, high-quality resident care.
Key Responsibilities:
Staff Development & Education
- Assess facility-wide clinical training needs and develop ongoing education plans
- Coordinate and lead orientation and onboarding programs for newly hired clinical staff
- Direct in-service education, annual competencies, and skills validations
- Support preceptor and mentorship programs for new team members
- Track and maintain clinical staff credentials, licensure, TB, and Hepatitis B compliance
- Partner with nursing leadership to support recruitment, retention, and staffing initiatives
Infection Prevention & Control
- Plan, implement, and direct the facility's Infection Control and Antibiotic Stewardship Programs
- Ensure compliance with CMS, CDC, OSHA, and local health department regulations
- Track, trend, and analyze infection data and prepare reports for leadership and QAPI
- Investigate, document, and report infections and occupational exposures as required
- Serve as liaison with local and state public health authorities during outbreaks
- Educate staff on infection prevention practices and monitor compliance
- Coordinate immunization and employee health programs
Leadership & Operations
- Participate in QAPI, MACC, NAR, UR, and other leadership meetings
- Assist with clinical investigations, surveys, and regulatory inspections
- Participate in manager-on-duty and on-call rotations as assigned
- Provide clinical support as needed to ensure resident care needs are met
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license preferred (LPN considered)
- Minimum one year of clinical experience in acute or long-term care
- Experience in staff education, infection prevention, or clinical leadership preferred
- Training or willingness to obtain training in infection prevention and control
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Team-oriented, flexible, and self-motivated
Education:
- Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
- In lieu of nursing degree, candidates with education in microbiology, epidemiology, medical technology, or related fields may be considered (per regulatory guidelines)
