The TerraPower Isotopes® (TPI™) division has been established to pursue medical isotopes development--advancing nuclear science for significant human health benefits. We seek to support revolutionary radiotherapies for treatments of various cancers through the supply of radioisotopes. TerraPower currently has unique access to a supply of thorium for the long-term production of actinium-225 in the growing alpha therapy market and intends to expand into other nuclear related medical treatments.

System Design Engineer
The TerraPower Isotopes® (TPI™) System Design Engineer will play a key role in the design and, integration of mechanical and chemical systems within TPI Ac-225 production facilities, with particular emphasis on hot cells and gloveboxes suitable for handling of alpha emitting and long-lived radionuclides. The ideal candidate will have experience contributing to and coordinating integrated system design within a cross disciplinary engineering team, and experience and expertise relevant to the design of radiochemical processes, equipment, and/or containment systems.
Responsibilities:
• Design of radiopharmaceutical, nuclear and/or industrial process systems and sub-systems from requirements through final design.
• Coordinate development, fabrication, installation and acceptance testing of equipment for radio pharmaceutical application and radiological material handling.
• Coordinate the review of analyses, such as dose, seismic, structural, and other analyses performed by others and ensure results support the purpose of the component.
• Support commissioning and decommissioning efforts for radiological components.
• Support the ongoing effort of trouble shooting equipment, maintaining, and modifying equipment as needed.
• Establish and maintain requirements for designed systems and components.
• Analyze and allocate regulatory criteria and standards to complex mechanical and process system design.
• Identify and ensure effective application of correct design codes into the design of facility and lab systems such as ASME, ASCE, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, etc.
• Support FMEA or other Process Hazard Analysis techniques.
• Support design reviews as facility and lab system and subsystem designs are established and refined.
• Support and lead configuration control and design change efforts.
• Support planning efforts and maintain schedule adherence for design activities within a system, as well as their integration with an overall project schedule.
• Interface with the design team to create and manage drawing packages of system designs, including but not limited to Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), 3D models, assembly/part drawings, and system interface drawings.
• Interface with design disciplines (such as mechanical, instrumentation and controls, civil, and nuclear) to identify and develop design information and specify system design and performance criteria.
• Provide technical direction and oversight of supplier projects, working with the contract administrator to ensure delivery of data and other deliverables, as well as coordination and performance of technical reviews of deliverables. This may include management of engineering services and fabrication activities.
• Provide Support and oversight during test execution, evaluation of test results, and reporting of test results.
• Generate design package for systems, sub-systems, and equipment designs including coordination of calculations, design reports, mechanical drawings, and engineering design specifications.
Key Qualifications and Skills:
• B.S. in Mechanical/Chemical or related discipline from an accredited university and 5+ years direct experience with proven equipment design and testing skills.
• Demonstrated experience in the design of complex systems, structures and equipment.
• Experience with complex equipment design and commissioning.
• Experience with process hazards analysis (PHA) and hazard and operability (HAZOP) analysis .
• Experience with Acceptance Testing of equipment.
• Experience with multi-discipline integration highly desired.
• Previous experience with radiological containments (gloveboxes or hot cells), radiological shielding, radiological handling process systems, or similar high-performance system or equipment design is highly desired.
• Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
• Discipline, rigor, attention to detail, attention to safety, and procedural adherence are required.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, such as those developed in fast-paced environments including the military, and other nuclear or radiopharmaceutical environments.
• Candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to coordinate a design team's effort with minimal direction.
• Ability to handle projects that include many competing objectives and design constraints, with ability to resolve conflicts between objectives.
• Ability to work on simultaneous tasks that require a multi-disciplinary approach.
• Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001.
• The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, able to communicate openly, and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
• Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.

Job details:
Salary Range Level 10: $117,922 - $176,833
Salary Range Level 11: $138,685 - $208,027
*We typically place offers in the lower to middle portion of the range to maintain internal equity and allow room for growth. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual's qualifications experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
