JOB SUMMARY:
The Transportation Manager is responsible for all inbound and outbound transportation functions for Shoppa's, including route planning, delivery scheduling, driver supervision, carrier relations, import coordination, and 3PL management. This role manages transportation activities, personnel, and delivery performance across all Shoppa's Distribution Centers, overseeing drivers and transportation coordinators who support multiple locations. The Transportation Manager ensures timely, compliant, and cost-effective transportation of parts, equipment, and supplies while optimizing delivery performance and customer experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee daily inbound and outbound transportation operations across all locations.
- Develop and optimize routes, delivery schedules, and truck utilization to reduce cost and improve service levels.
- Supervise CDL and non-CDL drivers, ensuring compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company safety requirements.
- Manage Transportation Coordinators responsible for dispatching, scheduling, and customer communication.
- Coordinate inbound freight appointments, dock scheduling, and delivery windows with suppliers and internal teams.
- Lead all import shipment coordination including customs documentation, brokers, and delivery timelines.
- Negotiate rates and terms with carriers, freight brokers, and 3PL providers.
- Manage fleet assets including trucks and trailers, ensuring proper preventive maintenance schedules, coordinating repairs, tracking utilization, and making data-driven recommendations on fleet expansion, replacement, and retirement to support service levels and cost efficiency.
- Track and report transportation KPIs including on-time delivery, freight spend, route efficiency, fuel usage, and delivery accuracy.
- Maintain TMS systems and transportation processes; recommend improvements where needed.
- Diagnose recurring delivery or carrier issues and implement corrective action plans.
- Partner with Warehouse & Fulfillment Managers to ensure seamless flow of outbound orders.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years of transportation management, fleet management, dispatching, or logistics supervision.
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations, CDL requirements, and transportation compliance.
- Experience with route optimization tools, TMS systems, and ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics a plus).
- Experience managing drivers and/or multi-stop delivery operations.
- Strong analytical and route optimization skills.
- Ability to coach and lead drivers and coordinators in a service-focused environment.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- High emotional intelligence and ability to handle customer or delivery escalations calmly.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with constant scheduling changes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and reach occasionally.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods while planning routes or dispatching.
- Occasional ride-along or field visits with drivers are required.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
