Description
The Department of Surgery, McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine, is seeking qualified candidates to fill a full-time, paid Visiting Research Scholar position in the appointment stream. The overall goal is to provide the Scholar with an opportunity to acquire new skills through research activities that will contribute to the academic environment and ultimately enhance the Scholar's ability to develop a career in academic medicine.
The required qualifications include:
1) Basic clinical degree (e.g., MBBS, MD, RN) with plans to pursue advanced clinical training in the near future.
2) No significant research training or experience.
3) Ability and desire to acquire new research skills through focused research activities that complement the Scholar's clinical interests.
The required duties and responsibilities include:
1) Research Activities: Learn to conduct independent research under PI supervision, including collecting data, analyzing data, writing manuscripts, and preparing findings for publication or presentation.
2) Intellectual Engagement: Attend seminars, lab meeting,s and research discussions.
3) Collaboration: Perform research under the supervision of physician-scientist faculty members with potential to lead to collaborations with the Scholar's home institution.
4) Mentorship: Engage in formal and informal discussions and teaching sessions for junior trainees and staff members.
5) Presentations and Publications: Learn to communicate research findings through formal presentations and coauthoring publications.
6) Location: Relocate to Pittsburgh for at least 1 year for on-site research using McGowan and affiliate research facilities (e.g., office, labs, library).
Note: The Visiting Research Scholar will not be involved in the delivery of clinical care under any circumstances. Any patient-related research shall occur entirely within the context and scope of IRB-approved research projects and in accordance with applicable federal, state, and institutional rules and policies.
