Your Mission in Action
The Youth Activity Aide is responsible for implementing and maintaining an ongoing activities program and points program for the UC. This position collaborates with internal departments and external individuals to coordinate, schedule, and facilitate recreational activities on and off-site. In addition, the Youth Activity Aide will be tasked with submitting orders for necessary supplies, including clothing, ensuring that all required materials are available for activities. The role also includes planning and coordinating outings for the UC, ensuring that all logistical aspects, including transportation and permissions, are effectively managed.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement age-appropriate activities for the UC, both on and off-campus
- Supervise residents during activities and maintain a safe, orderly environment
- Manage purchasing transactions, oversee inventory, and maintain and organize recreational supplies, including materials, equipment, clothing, and other resources
- Collaborate with Shelter Unit Manager and staff to ensure program goals are met and residents receive quality care
- Coordinate and schedule activities, ensuring clear communication of guidelines and directions
- Document resident progress and behavior for monthly and quarterly reports
- Encourage and reinforce positive behaviors in residents, offering rewards and incentives, including the use of the point store to support money management skills
- Develop extra activities for residents with intense needs and teach money management through the point store
- Attend meetings and training, maintaining the required training hours per licensing and ORR standards
- Foster strong relationships with management, staff, residents, families, and community partners to enhance program effectiveness
- Must assist in the evacuation of UC as needed due to inclement weather conditions, natural disasters, or other unforeseen occurrences
- Other duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a social or recreational program
- Possess a valid driver's license and maintain an excellent driving record
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, based on service population and area
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and planning skills
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Sensitivity to the cultural and socio-economic characteristics of the service population
- Ability to establish respectful relationships with UCs and work independently with limited supervision
- Ability to work collaboratively with other staff and/or service providers or professionals
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Social Work, Social Services, Human Services, Psychology, Special Education, or closely related field
- Three (3) years' relevant experience in a social or recreational program
