Fairbanks Morse Defense is seeking skilled and motivated Field Service Technicians to support mission-critical equipment in a dynamic shipyard environment. What You'll Do
As a Field Service Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of equipment, including:
- Diesel engines
- Electrical controls
- Roll-up doors
- Cranes
- Elevators
- Davits
You'll work both independently and collaboratively to troubleshoot issues, restore equipment to full operation, and deliver exceptional service to customers.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Service Execution
- Diagnose equipment issues and develop effective solutions
- Perform scheduled and emergency service with a focus on first-time fix
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
- Maintain up-to-date service documentation and reports
- Stay current on engineering updates, service notices, and product changes
Customer & Team Collaboration
- Build strong relationships with customers, internal teams, and leadership
- Communicate clearly regarding service updates and estimated timelines
- Represent the company with professionalism and technical expertise
Operations & Performance
- Plan and prioritize work to maximize efficiency and productivity
- Complete service reports, expense reports, and administrative tasks accurately and on time
- Maintain company equipment, tools, and vehicle
- Support shop work as needed (assembly, inspections, testing, etc.)
Safety
- Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE
- Complete required safety training
- Report incidents immediately and maintain a safe work environment
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- One of the following:
- Associate degree in a technical field + 4 years of relevant or military experience
- 4+ years of military or industry experience in similar equipment
Technical Skills:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
- Ability to read and interpret diagrams and blueprints
- Experience or foundational knowledge in:
- Hydraulics and pneumatics
- PLCs and electronic controls
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Preferred:
- Experience with diesel or gas engine systems and testing equipment
- Understanding of gas compression systems and related safety considerations
- Ability to travel up to 25% (domestic and occasional international)
- Valid driver's license and eligibility for company credit card
- Valid U.S. Passport (or ability to obtain within 3 months)
- Must meet NOFORN requirements (U.S. Citizenship required)
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, and work in confined or elevated spaces
- Frequent lifting (minimum 35 lbs)
- Use of hands, tools, and equipment regularly
- Visual acuity including close, distance, and depth perception
- $10,000 total bonus opportunity
