Description
The Machine Adjuster sets up and adjusts envelope converting machines for safe and efficient operation in the production process. This includes the start-up, operation, adjustment to proper parameters involving close tolerances, maintenance, troubleshooting, and cleaning of the equipment. ( This is meant to be a guide. Duties may vary dependent upon management.)Essential Position Functions:
- Set up and adjust various types of converting equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Start-up, manage adjustments involving close tolerances, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Continuously monitor all assigned machines to ensure quality (folding, gumming, printing, count, packaging, etc.); and run speed standards are being met.
- Maximize machine productivity, performing timely changes between jobs and achieving and maintaining maximum run speeds.
- Troubleshoot operating difficulties, analyze machine operations, and make necessary mechanical adjustments to eliminate quality variations and mechanical malfunctions.
- Ensure quality of product being packed by following written quality control procedures.
- Make proper size changes and adjustments to all assigned machines in accordance with estimated change times; note any delays on work order.
- Continuously monitor all assigned machines to ensure quality and run speed standards are being met.
- Relay any special instructions or important information pertaining to machine performance to next shift upon their arrival.
- Review and make recommendations on operation envelope (parameter) on equipment.
- Lead the discussion on work prioritization of plant equipment preventative maintenance/repairs to meet site objectives and goals.
- Inspect and evaluate machine conditions and react to any gaps in actual versus expected performance.
- Minimize machine downtime through scheduled preventative maintenance tasks, ongoing analysis monitoring, and maintaining of equipment's condition.
- Work with gum and glue products that will need cleaning and replenishing.
- Work with ink and ink cleaning products that will need maintenance and replenishing.
- Maintain an understanding of ink and gum uses, properties, applications, and settings.
- Notify supervisor of recurring equipment problems and corrective action taken.
- Provide assistance and direction to operators regarding product quality, safety and duties.
- Guide and direct less experienced technicians and others assigned on routine work.
- Act as subject matter expert to provide input for the development and implementation of effective programs for training employees.
- Provide training to coworkers, including other adjusters.
- Compliance with company policy including safety rules and regulations.
- Maintain, clean machine and work area (sweep, remove waste, etc.).
- Other duties as required.
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- A minimum of 12 months of relevant mechanical experience is required.
- 3+ years of direct envelope experience is preferred.
- Mechanical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills required.
- Flexibility with machine assignment required.
- Basic math skills and the ability to accurately read a ruler; basic computer skills required.
- Ability to prioritize and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
- Able to effectively handle multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communications skills.
- Must be able to work alone, and with a team.
- Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.

- Ability to read equipment manuals, job jacket requirements and follow associated directions.
- Ability to apply written instructions to machine set-ups and to trouble shoot.
- Regularly required to use written and oral communication skills
- Will interact regularly with managers and staff regarding building issues
- Must be able to work independently with little supervision
- Employee works primarily in a manufacturing warehouse environment.
