Description
As a Mechanical Engineer III at Cooper Machinery, you will play a key role within the Engineering team, working cross-functionally to ensure customer requirements are successfully met. In this role, you will make informed decisions within established parameters, tackle moderately complex challenges, and contribute to the development of innovative engineering solutions. If you enjoy collaboration, problem solving, and driving projects forward, this is a strong opportunity to grow your impact.
What You Will Do:
- Match turbine flow capacity and turbine efficiency to exhaust energy available from the engine at various load points.
- Size the compressor to meet boost pressure requirements across the engine's speed and load range.
- Design nozzle rings, turbine wheels, compressor wheels, and diffusers for the expected operating envelope, including part-load conditions.
- Turbine wheel material selection experience needed.
- Understand creep, stress rupture, and thermal fatigue failure modes at elevated temperatures.
- Weld procedure qualification and repair standards for cast and forged components.
- Test stand design and instrumentation.
- Evaluation of field (on-engine) data and compare to test cell data for troubleshooting and identification of upgrade potential.
- Read bearing damage patterns and analyze compressor wheel damage.
- Interpret vibration data trends.
- Reconstruct operating history from physical evidence on returned hardware, cross-referenced against control system data.
- Familiar with the design requirements of critical components of reciprocating compressors and determine critical-to-quality aspects.
- Create parametric casting/forging and machining 3D models and associative manufacturing drawings.
- Collaborate daily with the inside sales team to support aftermarket component quotations.
- Provide support to the Quality team with Non-Conformance Report (NCR) investigations, including physical inspections.
- Provide inputs from model and drawing studies to support Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis for design improvements.
- Implement ASME standards on manufacturing drawings/models and apply correct Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5M standard.
- Utilize engineering functions within TeamCenter and SAP for material master and Bill of Materials (BOM) creation, checking, and approval processes.
Who You Are:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited university with 8-10 years of experience.
- Strong technical presentation skills.
