Description
We are seeking a Peeler Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of peeling equipment while ensuring high-quality product output and meeting production deadlines. The Peeler Operator will perform machine setup, operation, troubleshooting, quality inspections, material handling, preventative maintenance, and production reporting. This position also supports continuous improvement efforts, cross-training initiatives, and adherence to all company safety and quality standards.Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation & Production (45%)
- Set up, operate, troubleshoot, and adjust peeling equipment following established procedures and work instructions.
- Review production orders and verify materials and specifications prior to processing.
- Gather and stage materials required for production runs.
- Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to maintain productivity and quality standards.
- Conduct visual inspections of equipment and work areas before and during operation.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and report equipment issues to supervision and maintenance personnel.
- Operate production equipment and associated systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company procedures.
- Complete production runs safely, accurately, and efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Follow all quality procedures and product specifications.
- Conduct continuous quality checks throughout the production process.
- Identify and report quality concerns promptly to ensure product standards are maintained.
- Safely operate forklifts, hoists, hydraulic equipment, and other material-handling devices as required.
- Transport raw materials, work-in-process inventory, and finished goods throughout the facility.
- Adhere to all powered industrial truck and material handling safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Clean machinery and surrounding areas between production runs.
- Assist with routine equipment maintenance and report any maintenance concerns immediately.
- Follow all housekeeping and safety protocols.
- Transfer, sort, and prepare raw materials according to production requirements.
- Load materials into production equipment while following established specifications and procedures.
- Utilize computer systems to enter, review, and track production information, work orders, and inventory data.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of production activities.
- Maintain regular communication with supervisors and team members regarding production status and operational issues.
- Participate in department, production, safety, and company meetings.
- Cross-train in other departmental functions and provide support where needed.
- High School Diploma or GED required; equivalent manufacturing experience may be considered.
- Previous manufacturing or machine operator experience required.
- Experience operating industrial machinery preferred.
- Forklift certification or experience preferred.
- Bucket truck experience is a plus.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Basic math skills and understanding of units of measurement.
- Experience with data entry and basic computer systems; ERP experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to work overtime as needed to support production demands.
This position works in a manufacturing environment and may be exposed to:
- Loud noise levels
- Dust, fumes, and industrial chemicals
- Extreme temperatures and temperature fluctuations
- Moving machinery and powered equipment
- Dirty or confined work areas
Required PPE includes safety glasses, steel-toe/composite-toe footwear, hearing protection, and other protective equipment as required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, reaching, climbing, stooping, pushing, pulling, and repetitive movements.
- Ability to safely lift and move materials throughout the shift.
- Manual dexterity to operate tools, controls, and equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively regarding production and safety matters.
- Ability to work safely in a physically demanding manufacturing environment while following all safety policies and procedures.
