- Quality Inspector III
Description
Quality Inspector III — Houston, TX
Technically inclined and ready to grow? Join a stable, growing company where the work is ramping up and so can your career! At Cooper Machinery Services, we're looking for a Quality Inspector III who can join the company and be an immediate asset and has a desire to cross-train and add value throughout the quality department.
Since 1833, Cooper Machinery Services has built the engines and compressors that power the world's energy infrastructure — Cooper-Bessemer, Ajax, Superior, and more. Every one of the 22,000+ units we have in service runs because someone, somewhere, made sure it was built right the first time. That's where you come in. As a Quality Inspector III, you'll be the last line of defense between a machined part and the field — catching what others miss, holding the line on tolerance, and making sure Cooper's legendary reputation stays legendary.
What You'll Do
- Inspect incoming components from vendors, verifying material test reports (MTRs) and confirming quality requirements are met
- Conduct in-process inspections during manufacturing and assembly, giving production fast, actionable feedback when parts fall outside tolerance
- Perform final inspections to confirm products meet customer requirements before they ship
- Run visual, dimensional, physical, and non-destructive testing (NDT) on components, and document every result
- Validate purchased and manufactured products against specifications, methods, and inspection plans
- Approve raw material certifications prior to production release
- Process non-conformance issues, partnering with Manufacturing and Engineering to resolve quality concerns quickly
- Make the call — accept or reject — based on quality standards and product requirements
Who You Are
- High school diploma/GED plus 8+ years of inspection or quality experience (Receiving, In-Process, Final Inspection, QC), ideally in a machining environment
- Skilled with inspection tools including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, go/no-go gauges, thread gauges, height gauges, surface testers, and optical comparators
- Able to read mechanical drawings and blueprints with precision — tolerances, dimensions, and requirements
- Familiar with ISO 9000 and Quality Management System practices (non-conformances, corrective actions, work instructions, inspection and sampling plans)
- Comfortable with MS Excel, Outlook, Word, and SharePoint
- A strong communicator who can work independently or alongside a team, with sharp problem-solving instincts
Nice to Have
- Experience with portable CMM equipment (Faro Arm)
- Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
- SAP experience
