Department: Deans Office - CON Salary: 65,300 - 74,300Description:
Manages the administrative, financial, budgetary, and human resources operations of a large and very complex university department. Oversees the administration and operations of a number of research grants, service centers and institutes for the department.
1. Manages and oversees the department's financial accounting system which includes all cost centers for federal and state grants, and contracts.
2. Reviews and approves the reconciliation of accounting records. Prepares financial and budget reports to monitor financial activity.
3. Ensures compliance with all UH internal audit requirements, UH Office of Contracts and Grants policies and procedures, and the State of Texas policies and federal rules and regulations.
4. Responsible for various administrative and financial affairs of the department including personnel, procurement, travel documentation, accounts payable and receivable and general accounting-related issues.
5. Provides supervision of departmental staff and includes defining job duties, setting performance development plans and goals, conducting annual performance reviews and assisting with the implementation of organizational and operational decisions. Enforces safety compliance rules and regulations.
6. Serves as liaison for the faculty and staff with other university departments and offices.
7. Facilitates regular staff meetings to provide information and training, promote professional effectiveness, and to review current practices and procedures.
8. Some travel will be required between Sugar Land, Katy and Central Campuses.
8. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Position Overview
The Senior Department Business Administrator oversees various business operations for the Gessner College of Nursing, including financial management, budgeting, human resources, research administration, and departmental operations. This role ensures compliance, drives efficiency, supports faculty and staff, and contributes to the strategic direction of the College and University.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Oversight
Manage and oversee the department's full financial accounting system, including all cost centers for federal grants and contracts.
Review and approve reconciliation of accounting records; prepare financial and budget reports to monitor activity and ensure accuracy.
Ensure full compliance with UH internal audit requirements, UH Office of Contracts and Grants policies, State of Texas regulations, and federal rules.
Administrative & Operational Management
Direct various administrative and financial affairs of the department, including personnel processes, procurement, travel documentation, accounts payable/receivable, and general accounting functions.
Oversee operations of research grants, service centers, and departmental institutes.
Human Resources & Staff Supervision
Supervise departmental staff, including defining job duties, setting performance goals, conducting annual evaluations, and supporting organizational and operational decisions.
Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with all safety regulations.
Departmental Communication & Collaboration
Serve as a key liaison for the faculty and staff with other UH departments and administrative offices.
Facilitate regular staff meetings to provide updates, training, and opportunities for professional development.
Campus Coordination
Travel between Sugar Land, Katy, and Central campuses as needed to support departmental operations.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's in Accountancy is strongly preferred.

Minimum Qualifications: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4-year degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.
