Under general direction, leads a team of Safety and Health consultants assigned to a specific geographic region within the State of Florida, engaged in the full range of consultation visits, compliance assessment and training activities that benefits small employers covered by the Federal OSHA Act. The position requires a high level of safety and health technical and managerial expertise.Minimum Qualifications:This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a Physical science, Engineering or related field, with 4+ years experience in a safety and health consultation or inspection-related position.
Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
MS or PhD Industrial Hygiene, Safety or related field.
10+ years of progressive safety and health leadership experience; 5+ years managing and developing teams, 5+ years of consultation, lead auditor, management systems (OHSAS 18000, ISO 14000 or Z-10), or process safety experience.
Special Working Conditions
This position frequently requires climbing, lifting moderately heavy items, such as storage containers. On an inspection, incumbent is required to wear a hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard toe shoes. Uses measuring instruments to determine air quality and noise levels, and equipment to evaluate electrical, trenching, and machine-guarding hazards.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.

This job description does not constitute an employment contract.Directs safety and health professionals in the deployment of consultation services across a geographical Area. Responsible for planning and organizing work assignments for themself and their team to ensure that program goals aligned with the Consultation Annual Project Plan (CAPP) are achieved. Manages the daily operations of consultations requests and site visits aimed at identifying and correcting workplace hazards in accordance with best practices and Federal OSHA Standards. Exercises discretion and independent judgment when working with small businesses to assess the effectiveness of their safety and health management system and to develop customized, practical solutions that ultimately reduce workplace injuries, illnesses, and fatalities.
Mentors and trains assigned safety and health professionals. Ensures individual development plans are completed for each consultant, so they have the most current health and safety regulations, equipment and processes. Maintains discipline, evaluates staff performances and takes the appropriate action.
Resolves complex health and safety challenges through collaboration with employers and employees in providing best-in-class risk reduction recommendations. Establishes good communication with all members and program leadership in the sharing of best practices.
Fosters partnerships and maintains cooperative relations with major stakeholders such as small employers, Area OSHA Office, industry alliances, and professional organizations in delivering consultation services.
Conducts reviews of the casefile documentation for accuracy and timeliness before entry in the information systems, include performing and/or reviewing industrial hygiene sampling data to ensure employees are not overexposed to hazards in the workplace.
Uses OSHA injury rates, emphasis programs and the employer demographics to develop an effective outreach program. Ensure maximum exposure of the consultation services through participation in seminars, workshops and conferences highlighting the business value of health and safety. Effectively develops and presents training materials, both formally and informally, to employers as well as students attending classes sponsored by the USF OSHA Training Institute Education Center.
Performs other administrative duties as assigned by the Program Director to support the mission and function of the Consultation Program.
